7/31: What a wonderful day! We slept late and then rented bikes for our tour around the island. The 3-speed bikes looked pretty rickety but they actually worked pretty well. We left the hostel at 10 and got back about 3:30. The island is fairly flat so the riding wasn't too strenuous, but I'm sure I will feel it in my legs tomorrow, and my butt feels it tonight. The roads are mostly paved, but we did ride on a few gravel/dirt roads and the cobblestone streets in town shake you up a bit.
We stopped a couple of times - once overlooking the water where we ate our fruit and laid down on the grass and read our books for a while. We also treated ourselves to an ice cream stop. When we got back to town we picked up some hot dogs and potato salad for dinner tonight and then went to the hostel for a nap.
I wanted to use the bike to ride back to the music school (3 minute bike ride versus 10 minute fast walk) tonight, so I asked the man who runs the hostel when the bikes were due back. He said it didn't matter - tonight or tomorrow morning was fine with him. They are so laid back here, it is very pleasant. The guide book says life here is easy going - no one locks their houses or their bikes.
The main tourist attraction of Aeroskobbing is Flaskeskibssamlingen, where Bottle Peter's lifetime work of 1,700 ships-in-a-bottle and other folk art is displayed in the former poorhouse. We decided to give it a pass  (although I'm always fascinated by how they build those ships in a bottle). The biking and listening to the students jam at the music school are good enough for me.
I went back to town about 7PM, but there was no one playing music at the school. I had bought some beer and cheese and crackers, so I sat in the park and then at the school for a while waiting to see if they started playing. Unfortunately they didn't, but it was a beautiful evening so I had a nice time just sitting outside reading.

8/01: We got the 8:55 ferry back to Svenborg and then the 10:40 train back to Odense. It was a very low-key day. We checked into the hostel, bought groceries, used the internet, did laundry, mailed notes home and read our books
