Her ideals and beliefs are very very good and she has a lot of strength to go through everything that she did and still be sane. I also like her cause of her dangerous side (hint hint Heero). I have to say that you have got to have a lot of guts to keep going after someone that threatens to kill you everytime that you meet.
When Relena entered the series, I despised her. She was against all I stood for. (come to my party *giggle*) Heh, right. Tomboy Teal strikes again,eh? Well, when her father died, her picture perfect world fell flat and shattered, leaving Relena wildly confused and helpless. After she's whisked to safety by Docter J, and brought back to her old ways, she's dramatically changed. Everyone's simpering but her. She gains a much more mature confidence. Need proof? When the attack is spraying rubble everywhere, and her clique comes screaming to her side, Relena just calmly tells them to get to safety. That was when my image of her changed a lot. She gets stronger and stronger throughout the series. Near the end, she really shows some spine by giving Dorothy a peice of her mind in the officer's quarters (Relena's glare and Dorothy's shock were classic!) and when Dorothy is showing off the Mercurius and Vayeate. When offered to see Heero, she declines in favor of her respondibilites. Atta girl! While I think she is one of the most poorly characterized people in the series, she still comes out on top.

I think she's kewl and stuff, but I just don't like it that she digs a guy who would kill her. Like when Heero's about to shoot her and Duo comes on. I mean If Duo weren't there to shoot Heero, Relena would be dead!!! And then she goes on tellin the cute dude Duo "What do you want to shoot him for?" I mean, that's just plain STUPID! I'd be grateful. Like I said, I don't hate the dudette, it's just somebody needs to knock some common sense into the girl!!!

This site is basically an interview of the man 'in charge' of Gundam Wing. One of the questions that he was asked, is what Heero and Relena's true relationship is. He claimed that he was no good at romance, so he didn't even try (but notice how he didn't contridict the journalist by saying that they had no relationship, or that he wanted to establish a Heero/Duo relationship, or just the fact that the journalist asked about Relena and NOT Duo). Ikeda stated that Relena symbolizes everything good about Earth. (This can be one explaination why Heero can't kill her. She is as innocent as that little girl in Endless Waltz.)
While I am an active HY/RP fan, I have to admit that their relationship can be interpreted in many different ways. My personal (non-romantic) opinion is that Relena is the symbol of peace, and Heero is the symbol of the colonies' vengence. Over the course of the series, Heero slowly becomes a nicer, more peaceful person, because of Relena's influence. I think that maybe it was Relena's self-appointed 'mission' to bring him peace, and stop the war raging inside him. At the beginning of the series, Heero was suicidal, and at the end, he shouted, "I will survive!!!" I believe that Relena is the cause of this dramatic change in Heero's character.
If it wasn't for Relena, Heero would be dead many times over, too. (Episode 3, and possibly Episode 2, ect.)

why i like relena.... i pity her. the poor girl has the weight of the world on her shoulders, way too much for a 15 year old to handle. heck, way too much for any one person. but she takes it on calmly. second, she reminds me of my youger self, idelaistic, wanting to help people, opposing war and voilence, searching for a way to make this world better. and as for the whole heero thing....which one of us hasnt made a fool of themslves over someone they had a crush on? i know i have. every girl has a crush on that mysterious guy who just doesnt fit in with the rest of their world once in heir life. I belive as she grew up (and matured out of little girl crushes) , she could be, if nothing more, a good friend to Heero, and help him deal with his emotions and adjusting to a more peaceful life. its obvious they care about each other, and wouldnt let the other get hurt.

my name is Desert Bloom and the reason i like Relena is pretty simple. come on people! a leading female character in anime like this is kind of unheard of. plus she has a very, very kind soul. and above that, shes a great at politician. i alos praise dorothy, however, and think that dorothy is good for relena in the fact that she makes relena think. no one wants a deadbeat who believes in their ideals and no on elses.
