I found the library today (actually I found two libraries) and caught up with my email.  The library was in an old train station that had been renovated, and trains still go by at regular intervals.  I asked the librarian what politician landed them with the building, and she laughed, and said "several.!”  Actually, it’s not so disruptive when you get used to it, and she said that the kids love it when a train goes by during Story Hour.  The library was packed with kids just out of school, and cut off from computer access.  The librarian said that every morning they’d be on the doorstep waiting for the staff to arrive and open up!  When I think of how librarians used to rack their brains on how to get patrons INTO the library…with the current internet addiction, they’re beating down the doors to get in.  She said fights have even broke out over the last remaining terminal!

Strangely enough, there is another library branch in a shopping strip mall only a few blocks away – the librarian said that the location was also politically motivated.  I can guess why, since across from the strip mall were what looked to be low-rise projects – information access for the educationally and economically disadvantaged.

The evening we spent at the stock care races—yes, I said STOCK CAR RACES.  There was racing last night at the campground, and the noise was pretty overwhelming, so it was a case of ‘if you can’t beat ‘em’…  Actually, I had wanted to go see a demolition derby.  Now I may become addicted to stock car racing.  For this I went to graduate school, I told John.  But he just responded that without graduate school, I wouldn’t be on the road for a year, and he’s right.

We got a little surprise when we arrived at our destination campground this afternoon.  Here we were, driving along through beautiful rolling hills, big farms, and we turn into the campground entrance.  There’s a long, divided road, with trees and farmland on both sides, corn growing, mare and foal gamboling in pastoral setting, etc, etc.  We come to the rise of the hill, and—MY GOD! IS THAT A ROLLER COASTER?!!!  Yes, dear friends, that is exactly what it was.  In fact, it was an AMUSEMENT PARK and RACETRACK, with an attached campground.  Shame on Trailer Life’s Campground Directory for not mentioning these small details!

We almost turned around right then, but decided to have a look at the campground anyway.  As it seemed to be a fair distance from these amenities, (and as we were very tired) we decided to give it a shot.  So far, it’s been ok.
