AMERICAN PRIDE
"...And now boys and girls, let me hear you recite the Pledge of Allegiance...

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America
And to the republic for which it stands
One nation, indivisible
With liberty and justice for all

Since I was a small boy, two states have been added to our country,
And two words have been added to the Pledge of Allegiance...
Under God.

Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer
And that would be eliminated from schools, too?"

When you lay your head down to sleep tonight, in addition to the prayer I have offered on this page, you should also thank God for your blessings.  You see, if you are not a military spouse, you have many more blessings than you might think.  Let me give you some examples.  Before I go to sleep, I say a prayer, such as the one I have added here. Then I thank God for my husband, who so often before me, since me, and yet to come, has put his life in harm's way so my son and I may have a safe place to sleep, leaving us unafraid of being awoken in the night.  I give thanks that I am married to a wonderful man who I can spend the rest of my life with, even though between 1994 and 2003, he was gone for 3 six month cruises, leaving me to celebrate every holiday alone from Halloween to Easter, including our anniversary.  This doesn't include all the little cruises they went on during the year, as well.  For example, from 1995-1996, my husband was home for a total of 3 1/2 months.  I thank God for our health, even though I have seen my husband trudge off to work with a fever and cough, because he was not deemed sick enough to stay home.  I am thankful for our home, even though it is just our home temporarily, because settling down will not happen until his career is over, which means I will not have any long term positions allowing me to gain tenor...something that will help when he does retire.  I am thankful for the pay he gets, even though if he was a civilian doing the same thing, he would bring home approximately 3-5 times as much money every month, be home at 5PM every day, Saturdays, Sundays and all holidays, with sick days and personal days, to boot.  And though the list can go on, I will end with one final thought I am thankful for.  I thank God every night that my husband has chosen the career he has...because it is men and women like him who give the rest of us our freedoms we take for granted every day.  The next time you find yourself cursing your current situation, upset about something you could not do or did not receive, think of the military spouse...and say a prayer.
