My friend Martha and I have been friends
for a very long time.

We have been friends forever.

We met in the First Baptist Church
in my hometown.
Martha had come from California
to Massachusetts in 1946.
She had a CA accent and the children
in our Sunday School class
were teasing her about it.
We children were used to our MA accent.
To make a long story short
I told the others to leave her alone.
I was very shy and bashful back then. LOL

When I first met Martha
I did not realize that she was the minister's daughter.
As we became very close friends
we started spending many happy hours
playing together in her room.

Martha and I were in second grade when we met.

We were still best of friends in twelfth grade.

Here we are in our new jumpers in 1955.

As you can see, Martha was six inches
taller than me.
Our school chums tagged us as
"Mutt and Jeff."

After graduation,Martha went on to college
and then seminary
and she became an
ordained Baptist minister in 1964.

I had my heart set
on becoming a teacher
after graduation.
My financial backing for attending
Salem State
fell through and I took a job
in a department store.

I married in 1957 and
Martha married in 1961.
We corresponded with each other
for many years.
We only saw each other a few times
after our highschool graduation.
I really missed being with her.

After many years of letter writing
and sending cards,
Martha and I finally got to see
one another in 1984.
What a great reunion.
It was like we had never been apart.
Since then we have visited
each other every year.

In October of 1989, Martha invited me to spend
a week in Ocean City, MD.
We enjoyed an Indian Summer.
The weather was wonderful.

Martha is a great photographer.
She always finds
a spectacular view of nature.
These are two alley views in
Rockport,MA on Bear Neck.

Martha inspired me to finish my college degree.
I graduated in May 1998 with a BA in History and Sociology.

Here we are on our recent vacation
at my three son's camp on the
Kangamangas in NH.

Martha took several scenic
pictures of this trail.

She loves to take pictures of the ocean
and mountains when she visits.

Martha and I look forward to the times
we spend together and we try to
create special memories
by the pictures that she takes
of those times.

Time spent with a friend is
time well spent.
