Thanks to all who came out to see Kevin's Fringe show, People Like You! The play was a wonderful experience and he really enjoyed working with the cast and crew. And now, for the post-Fringe party!

July 23, 2009

The Winnipeg Fringe Festival is in full swing! There are three more performances left, including one today at 5:15 at the "Son of Warehouse" venue. Come and see it while there's still a chance!

July 10, 2009

Kevin will be singing songs from such musicals as Avenue Q, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, and Urinetown, and there are also many more musicals the other performers will be sampling. Tickets are $15 at the door and the show starts at 7:00 p.m. Come and watch!

May 26, 2009

Happy birthday to Curtis and Kyle (and a belated happy birthday to Kirk)! And that's not all the news there is today ... Hit By A Bus Productions has won its first award! The Intruder received the Best Local Film award at the Reel Youth Film Festival screening last week. Sweet!

May 21, 2009

Last minute news: The Intruder will be playing tonight at the Winnipeg Cinematheque at 7:00 p.m. as part of the Reel Youth Film Festival. Come check it out!

The festival was a success! The movies were well received and even though Lindsey didn't receive any awards, it still felt great to be nominated (it might sound cliched, but it's true). Some bad news, though: apparently Yahoo! is shutting down Geocities, so this site will only be around (at its current location, anyway) for a few more months. If we end up moving the site, we'll post the new URL as soon as we get it.

April 14, 2009

Fantastic news! Two of Kevin's short films, The Projectionist and Lindsey, will play in this year's University of Winnipeg Film Festival, and not only that, Lindsey has been nominated for two awards: Best Actor for Adam Hurtig, and Best Screenplay for Kevin P. Gabel! Both films play on Wednesday, April 22 in the University of Winnipeg's Eckhardt-Gramatte Hall (located on the third floor of Centennial Hall). The show goes from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and so does the awards ceremony on Friday, April 24 (also in Eckhardt-Gramatte Hall). For more information, click here to go to the festival's web page. Hope to see you there!

March 15, 2009

Kevin has just been cast in People Like You, a new play being performed at this year's Winnipeg Fringe Festival! More details as they come along.

March 1, 2009

We aren't collaborating on a project right now, but various members of Hit By A Bus are keeping busy in the area of filmmaking. Curtis directed his high school's Grade 12 Spirit Week video last month, Kirk has co-written a scenario for a short comedy film, and Kevin has directed a short dramatic film, Lindsey, as well as acted in the comedy short Lucky Luke, which wrapped principal photography yesterday.

December 25, 2008

Merry Christmas, one and all! Make sure you watch the Hit By A Bus Christmas Video ... you know you wanna.

December 22, 2008

Hey, it's still three more days 'til Christmas ... more than enough time to check out the Christmas Video!

November 3, 2008

Happy belated birthday to Kim and Andrew!

September 14, 2008

A poem of Kevin's is being published in this year's volume of Juice, the University of Winnipeg's literary journal. Juice 8 is being launched at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26 in the U of W's Eckhardt-Grammate Hall. Copies cost only $5.00, so make sure to come by!

It's been a while since the last update, but the folks at Hit By A Bus Productions have been keeping themselves busy. Last month, Kevin acted onstage at the Warehouse Theatre, playing the lead role of Chris Paterson in I Dream of Jimmy (which won the Cora Mackenzie Award for playwriting). Also, Andrew left yesterday on a trip to Japan, and we expect him to smuggle back lots of cool electronics.

May 26, 2008

Lots of news! On the 24th, The Chain Letter played in the Yorkton Short Film & Video Festival, and on the 25th, Kevin shot almost all of a short non-Hit By A Bus horror/thriller film. The big news, however, is today's double-header birthday extravaganza! Curtis (who acted in Misplaced and The Chain Letter) and Kyle Kaye (who was the cinematographer on The Intruder and will appear as Col. Campbell in the forthcoming Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Liberty Eaters) both celebrate birthdays today, and we wish them both the best.

May 12, 2008

Happy birthday, Kirk! Many happy returns.

May 9, 2008

Kevin spent last night as an extra on the set of Amreeka, a new movie shooting in Winnipeg, starring Alia Shawkat of Arrested Development fame. Oh, and the shoot lasted pretty much all night — they didn't wrap until 4 a.m.!

April 28, 2008

The University of Winnipeg Film Festival may be over, but it won't be long before another one of our movies is on the big screen! The Chain Letter will be screened during the Yorkton Short Film & Video Festival on Saturday, May 24, and along with the other films in the touring Reel Youth Film Festival, it will play from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Yorkton, SK's Godfrey Dean Cultural Centre. We hope those of you in the area will come and check it out!

April 23, 2008

Tonight's the night The Intruder and Waiting for a Change play at the University of Winnipeg Film Festival. The show goes from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the University of Winnipeg's Eckhardt-Grammaté Hall, on the third floor of Centennial Hall. Hope to see you there!

April 18, 2008

In addition to The Intruder and Waiting for a Change, there is another film playing at the University of Winnipeg Film Festival that involves a Hit By A Bus member; Mr. Nice Guy, a short film from award-winning director John Kozak, features Kevin in a small role and will play at at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 25 in the University of Winnipeg's Eckhardt-Grammaté Hall.

April 16, 2008

Great news, everyone: The Intruder will play at the 6th Annual University of Winnipeg Film Festival! It'll play on Wednesday, April 23, and the program (also including Waiting for a Change, another film directed by Hit By A Bus Productions' Kevin P. Gabel) will play from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the University of Winnipeg's Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall (located on the third floor of Centennial Hall). We hope to see you there! For more information, click here to go to the festival's web page.

April 2, 2008

That last post, of course, was an April Fool. Ha!

April 1, 2008

Kevin here. I'm really sorry about this, guys, but all the footage we shot for Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Liberty Eaters is gone. It got wiped last night while I was editing on my Mac. I guess we're going to have to do another project, then. Once again, I'm really sorry ... especially to the rest of the cast.

March 24, 2008

The Freeze Frame Film Festival is over and Kevin had a great time helping out. The films were all wonderful and the audiences enjoyed them. Next year should be even better!

March 17, 2008

Some news involving Kevin: yesterday he was one of two actors at The Cinematheque performing live voice-over work for a foreign-language film in the youth-oriented Freeze Frame Film Festival. If you're interested in coming out, he will also be doing voice-overs for a film playing from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21 and one from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 22 (both films will be screened at The Cinematheque).

March 9, 2008

The audience votes are in from the Reel Youth Film Festival screening at The Cinematheque last November, and The Chain Letter didn't do too bad for itself! The Winnipeg audience voted The Chain Letter the second-best local film, the second-best comedy, and the second-best film overall. Out of a selection of nineteen films, that's pretty good! Click here to see the results on the Reel Youth website. <xmp>
