Here is the story line summarized. Max, Isabell, Michael, and Tess are aliens. Tess wasn't there in the beginning. After Max, Isabell, and Michael emerged from the pods they started to wander around. Someone found them, but Michael got scared and went another way. Max and Isabell were adopted by the same family, Michael was adopted by an abusive, alcoholic man. They all live in Roswell, New Mexico. Liz, Alex, and Maria are friends. Maria and Liz are best friends. Kyle, Sheriff Valenti's son, and Liz were dating. Liz's family owns and runs the Crashdown Cafe. They live above the restaurant. Max had a thing for Liz. He was at the Crashdown Cafe with Michael. He kept looking at Liz. Maria was spying on him for Liz. Two men got into a fight. One of them took out a gun and fired it, but he ended up shooting Liz. Max ran over to her and used his powers to heal her.
With her was an alien named Nesado. He told them they were human alien hybrids. In their past life, Max was the ruler of a planet and was married to Tess. Michael had been his second in command and had also been married to Isabell. Sheriff Valenti learned of Max's secret and began to help him. Kyle also found out when Max saved his life. Nesado was killed by an alien known as a skin. Tess went to live with Sheriff Valenti. Isabell was confronted by one of the skins who told her that her name had been Valandra and that she had betrayed her brother to help the skins to conquer her planet.

Sheriff Valenti was investigating it. His father used to hunt for aliens and it ruined his career. The Sheriff went on an alien hunting rampage when he heard about the incident at the restaurant. Liz had a silver handprint where Max had touched her. She confronted him and he told her the truth.
She told Maria. Max, Isabell, and Michael were getting ready to leave Roswell, but Maria and Liz convinced them to stay. Kyle and Liz broke up. Liz told Alex the truth aobut Michael, Isabell, and Michael. Michael told Liz nothing could be between them because he was an alien, but Maria and Michael started going out. Max and Liz finally got together and Michael got permission from the state to live on his own. Then, Tess showed up in Roswell and befriended Isabell. Max found that he had an unnatural attraction to her, so they took a hidden camera they found in Michael's apartment and put it in Tess' house. They saw she had powers like them and Max confronted her.
They found the skins headquarters and destroyed the husks that helped them survive in Earth's atmosphere. Michael found out that there was another set of four aliens identical to them. That set, which was defective, came down to Roswell from New York to ask Max to come with them since their Max was dead. A group had gathered there to ask Max for the Grenilith, which was a device that could get them home.
Max and Tess went with them to New York, but the defective set's Tess stayed behind. Liz and the others soon found out that the New York set had killed their Max. Max refused to give up the Grenilith and the New York set tried to kill him and kidnap Tess. Max found Tess sitting on the floor of their hideout, helped her up, and went back to Roswell.
A future Max used to Grenilith to go back in time. He asked Liz to find a way for present Max to stop loving her. He told her that Tess would leave Roswell and they would all die because they needed all four aliens to save Roswell. Liz pretended to sleep with Kyle and Max started to go out with Tess.
Tess began to feel like a family living with Sheriff Valenti and Kyle. Alex was killed, supposedly in a car crash. Liz refused to believe that and went to search for the true cause with Maria and Michael. They found the translations for an alien book that they had and it told them how to use the Grenilith to get home. Tess had become pregnant by Max and the baby was growing fast, but couldn't survive in Earth's atmosphere.
Kyle started to remember that Alex had been at his house before he died. Liz and Maria figured out that Tess had used her powers to force Alex to decipher the book and that she had killed him and erased Kyle's memory. Michael decided not to go and he bumped into Maria, Kyle, and Liz while he was leaving the grenilith. They told him what Tess had did and then they went to the Grenilith and told Max and Isabell.
Tess told them that Nesado had made an agreement that they would all go back with Tess having Max's son. The Grenilith was on a timer, so Max told Tess to go. Tess left. That was the season finale. More to come in the fall.
