Landscapes in Winter

Though this winter (2002) is not so cold in Niigata, we have only a few fine days. I took some pictures of landscapes in my city on such fine days.

The Agano River in winter

Photo 1 shows the Agano River in winter. We fish Masu salmon in spring, and seabass in early summer and autumn.

Mountains over there are Gozu. Those are not high, about 1000m of height. Many people enjoy hiking in spring and autumn.

This winter is not cold and we have a little snow. But wind and water are cold.

The Toyano Lagoon in winter

This is the Toyano Lagoon (photo 2). Niigata city is on the rivermouth of the Shinano River. So there were many lagoons and swamps .But almost have been reclaimed.

Alot of swans and wild ducks come from Siberia every year. We are looking forward to them. The Toyano is valuable and we must protect it.

The white building overthere is a football stadium. In this June the World Cup soccer games will come here. The name of the stadium is Big Swan.

Winter beech and a fishermen's shed

Niigata City has sandy shores and we can enjoy swimming in summer. But in winter the sea is always stormy. There is no people in a fishermen's shed.(Photo 3)

Big waves in winter

Strong and cold winds blow everyday. Big waves beat beeches. We can seldom enjoy fishing in winter.(Photo 4 and 5)
