Music has played an important role in my life. I grew up listening to music from an early age as do most people. I listened to almost all kinds of music. From jazz to gospel, soul to country music. I was particularly bowled over by the music of Lee Oskar. Lee Oskar is one of the best Harmonica players I've heard play to date and he is one of the reasons why I decided to learn a Harmonica. I was also influenced by the legendary Stevie Wonder and watching innumerable western movies.

As I grew older I was also introduced to the music of musos like David Sanborn and Eric Clapton. I enjoyed their music very much. They inspired me to wanna learn how to play their chosen instruments i.e. Saxophone and Guitar. My wish to learn those instruments hasn't materialised yet(can play bass guitar a bit), but I'm not giving up.

If you wanna learn an instrument here are some sites were you can get valuable info:

It is quite unusual to hear someone who is young saying he listens to jazz. That's b'cos there is this stereotype that jazz is only for old people. I do listen to some jazz but my favourite style of jazz is fusion or contemporary jazz as most people call it. I also listen to our own brand( South African) of Jazz. There are musos who I have great regard for in the field of jazz :

  • Hugh Masekela
  • Sipho Gumede
  • David Sanborn
  • George Benson
  • Joe Sample
  • Jonas Gwangwa
  • The Crusaders
  • Jimmy Dludlu
  • Stanley Turrentine
  • Earl Klugh
