geographical overview

tung ping chau is 1.1 square km in area and 3km long,500 m across,

the highest point of the island is 48m. the central region is

a 15-25m tall flat terrace, which gives the island is "sheet" shape .

this look like a crescent shaped .the wave-cut  platforms

and depositional  terraces not more than 2m high. each rock bedding

is about 1-5 mm thick. the beddings are clear ,

with rock characteristics affecting therock colors. where is significant

weathering, color variation is particularly rich. some has even developed

colourful bands. the flat rock stacks of tpc, resembling layered cakes ,

are the only ones of their kind in hk.the tpf was originally made up of

because of subsequent crustal movements,

sedimentary rocks were elevated and inclining gently form the west to

east at a dip angle of 10*-19*the north and south tips of the island also

slanted in such a way that resulted in a general

inclination towards the center of the ''crescent''. there are no significant

folds or faults in the stratum, this indicates the island has never

experienced rigorous structural movement.

nut the joints are extremely rich ,good for rock weathering and wave erosion.
