Originally a story from "Soushenji", written by Ganbao in 4th century China.

It was one of the chapters in last year's F.2 Chinese textbook.

Once upon a time, a young man called Simon met a ghost on his way to Central. The ghost said,'I'm a ghost. Who are you?' Simon cheated it and said, 'I'm also a ghost.' 'Where are you going to?'the ghost then asked. 'To Central.' 'So am I.' So Simon and the ghost walked together.

After a few miles along the way, the ghost said, 'It's too slow to walk like this. Let's carry each other alternately. How about you?' Simon replied, 'Fine.' The ghost first carried Simon. It said, 'You're so heavy. Aren't you a ghost?' Simon replied, 'I died recently, so I'm still heavy.' He then carried the ghost. the ghost was weightless. They took turns like this all along.

Simon said again,'I was newly dead. What do I need to avoid?' The ghost replied, 'Nothing but human saliva.' They then went on with the journey. Later they met a river on the way. Simon let the ghost cross first. It made no sound, but Simon did not. The ghost asked again, 'Why do you make sound?' Simon said, 'I haven't been dead long. So I'm unused to paddle in river.'

When it was near to Central, the ghost carried Simon and grabbed at him tightly. Simon screamed and asked the ghost to drop him down. The ghost ignored and later dropped him down, when they arrived in Central. The ghost changed itself into a man and changed Simon into a lamb. It then sold Simon and left with its pocket full.

原著大概內容：

有個年輕人名叫宋定伯，夜間前往宛市(今河南省南陽市)時遇到鬼。鬼不但不怕他，還與他交談。宋定伯哄騙鬼說，自己也是鬼。宋定伯和鬼輪流把對方負在背上，前往宛市。途中宋定伯多次露出破綻(身體有重量、過河有聲音)，他都以「新死」為掩飾，沒有被鬼識破。宋定伯更藉故查問鬼最怕的東西原來是人的唾液。快要到宛市時，他把鬼緊緊捉住，鬼驚恐之下變化為羊。宋定伯向鬼吐了一下口水，使它不能再變化，然後把它賣掉。

本改編版前半部跟原著一樣(只是把宛市改作中環)，但結局卻大大不同——Simon被鬼變為羊然後賣掉。
