In MC cloze test, there are blanks in a passage. Students are given four options for each blank. In each blanks, only one of the four options is the correct answer.

   

1. Common Question Types

(a) Choosing from a list of closely related words

      (pay attention to the context as only one of the words will suitably fit the passage) 

(b) Completing each sentence correctly in terms of grammar

      (often relate to verb tense) 

(c) Relying on the understanding of the content of the article 

(d) Recognizing common English collocations

 

2. Some Exam Tips

- The title is a good clue to the context of the passage.

- Read the whole passage first so that you have a good understanding of the context.

- After you have read the passage, you should try to fill in the blanks. The words surrounding the blank often provide a hint to the answer.

- If you are unsure of the meaning of the four possible answers, there are some ways to guess correctly:

(a) Read the sentence containing the blank and determine what type of word should fill the blank ¡V a noun, verb, adjective or adverb. Sometimes, the choice can be made based only on this information.

(b) Look at the words before and after the blanks for clues. For example, if the word before a blank is ¡¥an¡¦, then the missing word must begin a vowel.

- If time is available, read through the completed passage to ensure that it make sense.
