It means “submission to the will of Allah (God)”.
2    Why did pilgrims visit the city of Mecca?

Many pilgrims visited Mecca to pray to the idols in the Kaaba.
3    Why did some of the people of Mecca want to kill Mohammed?

Because the people could not collect money from the pilgrims.
4    Where did Mohammed go to escape?

He fled to the nearby town of Medina.

5    What was it that made poorer people take up Islam?

Because mosque teachings them a fair society.

He believed that the words in the Koran were those of Allah,spoken through his prophet Mohammed.

The Muslims set up schools and universities.They set up a ‘House of Learning’where scholars studied mathematics and translate the writings of the Ancient Greeks into Arabic.
