The Four and a half cup tea club

Lunar3 (2003) tea gathering in the Kam Tsin Village

The idea of the new year tea gathering is to recreate the new year atmosphere that we have in the old days. In this ever-changing place called Hong Kong, Traditions are changing fast and old values are disappearing too. Kam Tsin Village is one of the few villages that still keeps and carries on with its traditions. I remember that people greet each each with smiling faces, children running around saying 'Kung Hei Fat Choi' in the hope to get more red packets and, of course, fire crackers everywhere. It is not possible to have the last item revived but at least we can still have the new year spirit.

The Club and the Village has been friends for many years and with the help and support of the village, we tried to get people together and enjoy things that you are suppose to enjoy during new years. We toyed with the idea of getting a real stone grinder to make sweet on the spot.  It took a great sffort and eventually, Yeung Kim Wo found one in Shanghai Street after looking for in in Yuen long and SaiWan. Its cost $900 after bargaining and it turned out the it was the star of the event. Incidentally, the event was reported on ATV new.
