Sing a Song of Elements

(Author's note: This poem only introduces the first twenty elements.)

Hydrogen, the lightest element
When it burns in the sun
It becomes Helium
And it is a noble gas.

Lithium is an alkali metal
Beryllium is the next element
Which is an alkaline earth metal
And then, one more proton, is Boron

What's next is Carbon,
The most important element on Earth
Nitrogen comes next
Which is rather inert.

Oxygen, We need to depend on it
Fluorine, we use it to protect our teeth
Neon, we fill the street lights with it
Which is a noble gas again.

Adding a shell, is Sodium
Which reacts with water vigerously,
Magnesium is the next
Which reacts only in steam.

Aluminium is so light
We use it to make aeroplanes
Silicon is so common
We can even find it in the sand.

Phosphorus, one of the elements
That plants need for growth.
Sulphur, is rather corrosive
Especially when it is in the formula H2SO4.

Chlorine, the gas for sterilizing water
And is pale yellow in colour
Argon, a noble gas again
Also filled for electric lights.

Second last is Potassium
Also reacts very vigerously with water
The last one is Calcium
Which can be found in bones.

And that's all for the first twenty elements
Do memorize their names and symbols!
