Here Comes The Tears Live in Hong Kong
So finally I got to see Brett Anderson performing live AGAIN! I can still
remember how bad we felt when we knew Suede spilt up cos it's the same year
we're lucky enough to see them performing live in Hong Kong for the last time
though. I wasn't so excited like I thought I would be. Maybe it's because we had
been to many concerts these years *lol* But having a hard time trying to get to
the HKCEC did get on our nerves >.< We knew it's not even 7.30pm yet but we're
afraid those merchandise would be sold out already and stuff. Well, I found it
finally that the best thing that guide you to the venue is the posters HAHA The
concert promotion posters had been all over the places. I so wanted to take a
pic next to the poster but there're too many guards around.
Just around 7.45pm or something, we got to get in. Only albums are selling there
>.< $100 each with a free postcard and poster of the show, no wonder people just
walk passed the table and got inside instead. Silly me even thought the T-shirt
which were included in the deluxe edition would be selling in the
concert...*Sigh* Viv showed the staff our tickets so that they could guide us to
our seats. 'Oh that's a long way to get to your seats, it's way over there!' was
heard each time we showed the staff our tix. We're really excited and happy to
get to be so close to the stage ;) I took some photos of the stage before the
shows started. It was so weird to me that there're 2 drum sets on the stage, I
swear I did forget that supporting act.
People rushed to the front as soon as the lights turned off though they had been
asked to go back to their seats before. AudioTraffic came out as the supporting
act of the show and performed 4 or 5 songs non-stop. During the 15-30mins
performance, I couldn't see the stage at all, too many people blocked my views
in the front that I couldn't see anything unless I stood up on my chair.
There're already some fans behind me that got yelled at cos they're standing on
the chairs which were not allowed, I really dared not to try til The Tears came
out.
After a 20mins or so of the soundtrack and final preparation, the lights turned
off again and Here Comes The Tears!! Nathan, Mako, Will and Bernard came out
first from the right side of the stage while the beginning of The Asylum was
played. Brett was the last one that came out, and he walked slowly to the
microphone stand and waved to the crowd. Short girls like Viv and I really
couldn't' stand it anymore, so we ignored the rules and started jumping on the
chairs.
Here is the set list by the way:
The Asylum
Lovers
Imperfection
Low-Life
Autograph
The Ghost Of You
Brave New Century
Refugees
Apollo 13
Southern Rain
Beautiful Pain
A Love As Strong As Death
Two Creatures
While they were playing 'Autograph', one of the boys standing in front of us
waved his shirt in the air. That totally blocked my limited view >.< Just when
he noticed that I was having a hard time trying to grab some space for taking a
better photo of the band, I asked if we could exchange the 'seats' with him and
his friend. Glad that they didn't mind the request and even asked us to send
them a copy of the pics we took. I stepped to the front row first and it felt so
great cos I could see the band much better. Viv then came to the front with me
and enjoying herself.
We were already on the front row while 'The Ghost Of You' was on. The crowd were
so quiet though Brett asked the fans to sing along, he and Bernard then stopped
playing like they had captured and stood still for some seconds. The silence was
so touching that Viv and I couldn't help singing along with Brett loudly.
'Refugees' was one of the songs which Brett jumped and danced a lot. Maybe it's
because 'Here Comes The Tears' was released less than 100 days, most of the fans
were still not familiar with the album. We're one of the very few fans that did
know the lyrics and sang with Brett whenever he asked us so.
Bernard has enjoyed himself onstage as well. He didn't walk too much but stayed
in his side a lot. He did stand as close to the crowd as he could though. It did
feel so good to see him playing guitars. He did use quite a lot of different
guitars during the show. I did notice him a lot whenever he finished one song
and threw the guitar to the staff as he grabbed the another ones. He just looked
so cool.
A little while before 'Apollo 13' was played, Brett grabbed a bottle of water
near the drum set and threw it to the left side of the crowd. Just as the band
began playing the song again, Brett turned to the staff at the backstage and
pointed to the mess he made. He then walked to the our side again and sat on the
edge of the stage and sang the whole song. Bernard then even climbed down from
the stage as he played the guitar and leaned against the big speakers on the
right and finished the whole song. I do believe he must have sat on the floor or
lowered down his body that I couldn't quite see Bernard. Too bad that I couldn't
shake hands with Brett :(
It really did not take too long to finish 11 songs. The band then waved and
bowed to the crowd and went backstage. After a few mins, Brett, Bernard and Will
came out again, Bernard went to the keyboards with Will followed him. As soon as
Brett told the crowd the name of the song they're going to play. Bernard sat
down and played the keyboards while Will was standing and played. I was really
shocked to see how tall Will is, he looked so tall already when he sat on the
stage that I did have a hard time trying to get a better photo of the standing
Will, sitting Bernard and dancing Brett.
Mako and Nathan then came out and joined the band. Brett said it's gonna be the
last song he played tonight cos they're running out of tracks to perform. I so
wish they would play 'Co-Star' cos it's my favourite track. Just when Brett was
giving some hints about which song they're going to play next, I told Viv I
wanted to hear 'Two Creatures'. We're so excited when Brett did announce so!
It is just so touching to see the band playing on stage. I have seen Brett
performing live in Hong Kong before but I could not see him as close as I did
this time. It just felt so great and powerful to see Brett jumping and waving
right in front of me. He had been paying so much attention to the right side of
the venue for some reasons that he hardly went to the left side. To see Bernard
did make my dream come true, I just found that he did look so cool on-stage
though he is not as good-looking as Brett is. I love watching Nathan, Mako and
Will too! Nathan was enjoying himself onstage, I did notice him playing so hard
that he has been stepping backwards a lot *lol* It's like he's gonna perform
backstage. Mako did smile and laugh a lot as he played drums.
It's really my honour to see The Tears live in Hong Kong. I know damn well that
their official tour is not out yet. They had just played in the music festivals
and gigs
in different countries. It's just a rare chance for us to see them playing again
in Hong Kong. I hope The Tears will stay longer so I can listen more to the new
style that Brett and Bernard made. If they did come here again, I must watch
them again!
