She is involved with someone but doesn't know if he is her immortal beloved ... that's what this reporter guesses. Nadia Chan Chung-Ling: So Long To Eternal Love
Text: Lee Yu-Ban; Photos: Yuen Ka-Lok
"Maybe in the 1950s and 1960s it was easy to find an everlasting love. In this generation, everyone wants fast-food style love. Then again -- after a while -- everyone will get tired of this kind of love and be into everlasting love again. When I talk to someone about love, I don't want it to be for just two or three years, I want it to be for twenty or thirty years. What do I want from a boyfriend? I want him to be able to accept the way I look when I just wake up or the way I look when I'm sick. That would be good enough. To have a love where you are always together and lasts a long time, that's really precious."

Bondi Chiu Hok-Yi: Has No Regrets
Text: Julio; Photos: Mok Ho-Yu
When faced with adversity, some people know only to pout. "I'm not worried. I still have a television series that's yet to be released!"
When faced with a choice, indecision is inevitable. "If I had to do it all over again, I would still pick this path."
Looking back, it's hard not to have some regret. "After being with that company for seven years, I've learned a lot."
When it comes to love, it's hard to be as courageous as in the past. "I have no regrets about my past relationships. I will definitely date again."
Maybe we can learn something from Bondi Chiu Hok-Yi -- how to not have any regrets.

Kelly Lin (Lam Hei-Lui): Total Body Language
Text: Pui Pui, Mimi; Photos: Yuen Ka-Lok
Last week, this magazine got photos of Takashi Sorimachi and Kelly Lin having dinner together after working on their movie (SANNEY: YOU & I with Andy Lau Tak-Wah). Who knew that there was a friendly demeanour behind Sorimachi's cool exterior? Kelly Lin has been able to strike up a bond with Sorimachi because she uses body language. "He's a Japanese man so he tends to be very macho. It's very difficult to get him to learn English and I don't know Japanese so sometimes we have to use an interpreter. Nonetheless, most of the time we use body language. I think that's the best method because it's easier for him to understand me that way."

Nicola Cheung Sun-Yu: Whatever
Text: Sukey; Photos: Julio
"I'm a person with a lot of opinions. It doesn't matter if the person is one year old or one hundred years old, Nicola Cheung will still have lots of opinions. It doesn't matter if people think that I'm a new person that shouldn't talk so much. In my world, opinions lead to change in society. Look at the legislative council. There are people there who never have opinions and you have never heard of them. By contrast, the ones with the opinions are the ones that have lots of rumours. That's they way it is. If you have opinions then you will have rumours."

Shum Bo-Yi: Wants To Marry Edison Chen Kwoon-Hei
Text: Poon Kei-Chi; Photos: Fu San-Fat
In her dreams all she says is "yes boss, yes boss." When asked who her boss is she says Eric Tsang Chi-Wai without hesitation. When asked what she would like to see in her dreams, she smiles shyly for a moment and says quietly: "The dream that I most want to see is the one where Edison Chen or Andy Lau Tak-Wah marries me!"
Later, she says to the reporter: "Dreams are just fantasy! It would never happen in real life. Besides, good-looking guys have their problems. If they aren't brainless playboys they have lots of women chasing after them. So, I only dreams those dreams in my spare time!"

Waiting A Thousand Years For One Day: Annie Man Jung-Han
Text: Stephenie; Photos: Yuen Ka-Lok
A veteran of the entertainment circle, Annie Man Jung-Han usually plays characters who steal scenes and leaves a favourable impression on audiences. Take, for example, her most recent series for TVB -- COLORFUL LIFE. In the series, she plays Dun-Chu a mouthy, quick-witted, strong, lively, and cute character that made her the most popular character from the show. It earned her a larger following and much praise from the housewives who are TVB's most ardent fans. The combination of a good opporunity, a good character and excellent acting skills means that the Heavens are on her side it is only a matter of time before Annie Man becomes the top actress at TVB.

Loves It Over There: Carman Lee Yuek-Tung
Text: Jobbie; Photos: Chik Kei-Lun
When Carman Lee Yuek-Tung went to Shanghai to work on the television series YUEN LOI YAT KA YAN (lit. DESTINED TO BE A FAMILY) last year, she thought for sure that she would get homesick. As it turns out, she ended up falling in love with the place after she spent some time there. "Seeing what goes on over there really opened up my eyes. Compared to the hectic day and night schedule of working in Hong Kong, I feel that acting in Shanghai has been very beneficial for me. Over there, I had time to experience and process new things every day. So, the happy experience led me to really like working abroad. It's been a real boon for me."

Jolin Tsai (Choi Yi-Lam): Curl Up On Any Bed
Text: Suet Kei; Photos: Yuen Ka-Lok
Today, Jolin Tsai is curled up in bed and doesn't want to get up. While the photographer is rustling about and adjusting his equipment for the photo shoot, Jolin Tsai is fast asleep in spite of the hustle and the bustle. A normal seventeen year-old would spend most of her time in school and work only on the weekends. For Tsai, who is ambitiously juggling both school and her career, she works hard everyday to carry on with her studies. Nonetheless, no matter how determined you are, no matter how smart you are, and no matter how driven you are, there will always come a time when you feel exhausted.

Teresa Mak Ka-Kei: Hasn't Been Seen In A While
Text: Stephenie; Photos: Yuen Ka-Lok
Teresa Mak Ka-Kei hasn't been seen in a while! She's been commuting from Hong Kong to the Mainland following a pattern of work, then rest, then work again. Back and forth, back and forth carving a life out for herself. In DUKE OF MT. DEER 2000, Teresa Mak Ka-Kei is straightforward, courageous, passionate, rough, doesn't sweat the small stuff, dares to love and dares to hate. She is, very much, like her DUKE OF MT. DEER 2000 personna Fong Yi.

Lillian Ho Ka-Lei: Back From The Dead
Text: Jobbie, Suet-Kei; Photos: Chik Kei-Lun
Those that are back from the dead have hundreds of experiences under their belt. Asked about being seen as washed up last year at the tender age of 19, Lillian Ho Ka-Lei says that she felt like a cancer patient on the brink of death -- living in a tragic situation and powerless to do anything about it. To avoid coming to the bitter end, the only thing that can be done is to fight. The struggle back for the once popular Ho has taught her that she has only herself to blame for her predicament.

Number One In The Mainland: Hu Bing
Text: Kit Man; Photos: Julio, Wings
If one had to pick the four biggest stars in all of China, they would be Andy Lau Tak-Wah, Vicki Zhao Wei, Richie Ren (Yam Yin-Chai), and Hu Bing. "In the Mainland, I'm already at the top. Everyone of my series gets the highest ratings. People can't hlep but want to hire me because I am insurance for their ratings. They even think that it'd be best if I could be in every scene too! I also do the most ads in the Mainland. One year I do about ten and all ten are well-recieved. It's like this one shampoo company that got me to be their spokesperson. Once I started, their products sold out!" (EAST WEEK: Is he really that good?!?)

Suki Kwan Sau-Mei: Apart From The Highs
Text: Lee Hon-Ban; Photos: Yuen Ka-Lok
A few years ago, Suki Kwan Sau-Mei became disillusioned with the entertainment circle when she was forced to perform daring scenes in the movie TWIST (CHAT WONG; lit. THIEF KING. Feeling as though she has been insulted, Kwan quit the industry in a huff, found a regular job and delved into running a business. A few years later, Kwan found herself back in the entertainment circle in another daring role in RAPED BY ANGEL 4: THE RAPISTS' UNION. This time, with a new found maturity, she did not blanch at the daring scenes. After her time away from the entertainment circle, Kwan has come to understand that highs and lows, lost love, and business failures are ultimately all good experiences. "I realize that I love acting but I'm not that enamoured with the entertainment circle. So, I'll take it all in stride and let nature take its course."

Charlie Yeung Choi-Lei: A Windup Doll Walking On Its
Own
Text: Lee Hon-Ban; Photos: Hui Wing-Hong
People should remember who Charlie Yeung Choi-Lei is. In her five years in the entertainment circle, many believed that she would be one of its permanent leading figures. However, three years ago, she suddenly announced that she would quit and has not looked back since. To her, singing and acting were just things she did for fun and were not a career. For her career, she has developed her own production empire. First, she designed a line of high-class evening wear. Later, she created a brand of ultra-thin feminine products. Today, she is like a windup doll that has had her string broken and is out walking on her own. While the road ahead may have many twists and turns with each step accompanied by fear, she -- luckily -- has a handsome lawyer boyfriend walking beside her.

Leo Koo Gui-Gei: Logic and Love
Text: Lee Hon-Ban; Photos: Chik Kei-Lun
Leo Koo Gui-Gei is a man who remembers where he's from. Although he has been a singing star for many years, he still keeps in touch with his former elementary schoolmates and meets with them on an almost weekly basis. From time to time, the group will include his old girlfriend. "Since we were very close at one time, doesn't it make sense that we stayed good friends after breaking up?" Koo says.
Logically speaking, the statement is true. However, can logic be applied to love? In the past, logic told Koo: "Because I was boring, she broke up with me."
But now, upon reflection, he thinks: "Come to think of it, that's not right. I liked to write songs and write lyrics. I know how to draw. I shouldn't be that boring of a person. Right?"

Grace Yip Pui-Man: Feelings at 21
Text: Jobbie; Photos: Chik Kei-Lun
After being in the business for four years, it's time for a change in image. In the past, T-shirts and long pants have been her style because they are the clothes she feels most comfortable in. Now that she is purposefully making the change to dresses, she often feels a sense of unease. However, lately she has begun accepting her new look and appreciating the increased femininity it fills her with. "Don't get me wrong, I'm not looking to change myself into a Jade Babe. It's just that every woman has some measure of femininity to her. Actually, I have had suitors in my life. One of them was really persistent. He's been sending me cards and flowers for over a year. But, said to say, he's one of my fans and he is too young for me. There's no possibility that we could date."

Grace Lam Nga-Si: I Had Eleven Men At Once!
Text: Suet Kei; Photos: Yuen Ka-Lok
For me, last year's peak was having eleven boyfriends at once. Only one word can describe our relationship -- confusing. Even if it was a boyfriend's friend, it was possible to strike up something with them. It was ridiculous! I don't like one night stands because if you show your last card too quickly all the fun is lost. Between men and women, the time I like the most is when you hold back even though they really want you. It's because that's the time men are most attentive to you. You wait until the moment you both can't satnd it and give in to the passion that can no longer be controlled -- that's when love is the most fun.

Yoyo Mung Ka-Wai: Love Me For A Long Time
Text: Lee Yu-Ban; Photos: Yuen Ka-Lok
"Right now when I'm picking a boyfriend I follow the idea of 'it's better to leave something alone than to explore it sloppily.' I don't believe in love at first sight. If someone tells me that they fell live in love with me at first sight, I'd be scared! You've only seen me once, how can you tell what kind of person I am? I could be a man underneath, maybe I've got body hair growing all the way up to my neck! (SANNEY: Somehow I doubt it.) I don't want a guy who has had a lot of experience with dating. I want a simpler guy. If he had lots of girlfriends in the past but told me I was the one he loved most, I still wouldn't go out with him. I don't want that type because I'm afraid. I'm afraid that one day, he will suddenly tell me that I'm not the one he loves most anymore!"
(SANNEY: For the record, I am a simple guy that liked Ruby Wong Chuek-Ling more than Yoyo Mung the first time I saw EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED. I wonder if that counts?)

Even Annie Wu herself doesn't know exactly how many movies she has made. However, one person and one film are unforgettable to her. "The one that I remember most is my first one SUPERCOP 4: FIRST STRIKE. It was my virgin project and on top of that I was going to be the female lead the first time out. At that time, Big Brother Jackie picked me out from hundreds of other Taiwanese actresses. Thinking back on it, I'm grateful to Big Brother Jackie because he helped me find a career that I really, really like."

Kim Hee-Sun Has Issues With Leon Lai Ming
Text: Suet Kei, Stephenie; Photos: Chik Kei-Lun
To South Koreans she is a "natural treasure" that is adored by tens of thousands. The day before yesterday, South Korean actress and former rumoured girlfriend of Leon Lai Ming Kim Hee-Sun arrived in Hong Kong to promote the HK release of her film BI-CHUN-MOO. Due to the notoriety of the rumours with Lai and the buzz surrounding BI-CHUN-MOO, Kim could not get away to satisfy her shopping jones. The more she thought about it the more she wanted to go. Alas, her promotional duties meant she couldn't. To add insult to injury, once she saw one of Leon Lai's pictures she immeadiately got a headache. So now that she has a headache, it means headaches for all who gathered at the event!

Gallen Lo Ka-Leung and Kathy Chow Hoi-Mei: Eavesdropping
On Your Heart
Text: Suet Kei; Photos: Yuen Ka-Lok
Gallen Lo Ka-Leung and Kathy Chow Hoi-Mei have been partners on the screens previously. Lately, their roles in VAMPIRE CONTROLLERS (GON SI SIN SAN; lit. MR. HURRYING CORPSE), have brought them back together again. Upon their reunion, they rushed to each other like bullets to ask each other about matters of the heart. Can a man stay monogamous until the end? Does a woman in her 30s feel empty because she is not in a marriage? Do you want to have an affair? Which man in your life did you love the most? What thing makes a man vulnerable to a woman? With wave after wave of new stars, is the career in trouble? It appears that topics of conversation between men and women do not go beyond love and career.

After Lee-Hom Wang (Wong Lik-Wung) publicly disassociated himself with Rosemary Vandenbroucke in the past week, the result has been to see both their faces daily in the newspapers with Wang finding new ways each day of putting down the rumours that they are a couple. Since the rumorus have emerged, it has been Rosemary Vandenbroucke's image that has been taking a beating in the public as the other party acts as if he is involved then acts as if he isn't. Consequently, Rosemary's image as a sex symbol to many has been destroyed. However, Rosemary does not begrudge Lee-Hom Wang and his actions one bit. She says: "I trust that he is an innocent party. Besides, this isn't a matter than you can blame on one person being unable to handle it with grace."

Nadia Chan Chung-Ling: Win - Win Situation
Text: Pui Pui; Photos: Chik Kei-Lun
Due to the fact that Nadia Chan Chung-Ling has to work on the TVB series GUNG SI LUEN SI DOR (lit. PUBLIC PRIVATE RELATIONSHIPS PLENTIFUL), she had to turn down a movie offer because of a scheduling conflict. "I had the script for the movie months ago. If they hadn't delayed production, I could have shot the movie before work on the television series began. However, the movie changed production dates so I couldn't fit it into my schedule." As things turned out, Chan's decision to concentrate on playing her TVB character paid dividends as a movie producer stopped by the set one day and thought that Chan's look was refreshing. Consequently, he decided to create a character for Chan. So, the movie work that she had lost ended up being returned.

Carina Lau Ka-Ling: Love Through The Ages
Text: Lee Yu-Ban; Photos: Yuen Ka-Lok
According to Carina Lau Ka-Ling, her relationship with Tony Leung Chiu-Wai cannot be described as "a perfect match." "I think that love in the 1980s was more romantic. There's a little bit of regret. It's a memory like a teardrop that's fallen on a handwritten letter. It's something that was a little more precious."
We talked further on love and time. "I think that love in the 1960s was full of romance. It's like listening to stories on the radio. That feeling of sitting next to the receiver. Isn't that more romantic?" she says.
That only goes to show that Carina Lau Ka-Ling must really love the Tony Leung Chiu-Wai that exists in IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE.

ATV
Text: Chi Hon; Photos: Chik Kei-Lun
Of the actresses that appear in this year's ATV calendar: Alice Chan Wai, Lee Si-Ka, Kong Mei-Yi, Yiu Lam-Hung, Teresa Lau Sai-Lei, and Wong Oi-Yiu, Lee Si-Ka looks like the top contender to Alice Chan Wai's spot as top actress at ATV. "Don't say that. I only want to do my best. I've never thought about being number one. I'm very content to be number two. Right now, the main thing that I want to do is give myself time to see if I can build a career and get some results. So, I don't think that I'll even be thinking about marriage any time soon."

Miriam Yeung Chin-Wah: I Want To Break Ice For Ten More
Years!
Text: Suet-Kei, Pui Pui; Photos: Chik Kei-Lun
After the end of the music award season for the year 2000, Miriam Yeung Chin-Wah can be considered one of the season's big winner. Asked if talk about her finally "breaking out of the ice" has tainted her victory, Yeung answered: "I really don't care what people say. They can say that I'm really hot or that I just made a breakthrough. The fact is the awards are in my hands. Before I got into the business, I really liked Danny Chan Bak-Keung but everytime award season came rolling by, Gor-Gor (Leslie Cheung) swept the awards. Still, Danny was just as popular. So, I don't awards are a big deal. The most important thing is that there are results for people to see. If I have to 'break ice' to be happy and win awards. I don't mind 'breaking ice' for another ten years."

Jade Leung Jun: Liberation
Text: Chi Hon; Photos: Chik Kei-Lun
"This set of photos is my most daring since I've entered the business. However, the first time will also be the last time. Actually, I have nothing against taking sexy pictures as long as if fits my lower limit and the pictures turn out well. Then, I will have no problems with it. The reason I'm saying that I won't take pictures as daring as this anymore is because I feel doing it once is enough. When you do it too many times, it loses its meaning. That's just the way I feel. I'm not criticizing anyone else who does it because everyone else has their own view on things."

Favourite: Ruby Lin (Lam Sum-Yu)
Text: Pui Pui; Photos: Yuen Ka-Lok
The Year of the Dragon was a year of many rumours for Ruby Lin. However, on the other hand, for one who has always had it easy, it was an opportunity to test herself. "There should be ups and downs in life. It's very natural. After going through these rumours, I've discovered that I've matured. Luckily, all the rumours were false so it didn't effect my outlook on life." Looking ahead to the new year, her career is as busy as ever with jobs stacked up on top of one another. Clearly, the rumours have not effected her career. Movie contracts are flying down on her like flakes of snow, ad contracts are being presented to her endlessly, and -- when it comes to co-stars in television series -- it is one of the potential successors to the Heavenly Kings: Richie Ren (Yam Yin-Chai). As one can see, her place in the public has not changed. She is still our favourite.

Lee Ann: Working Hard To Make Money For The Man In Her
Life
Text: Stephenie; Photos: Julio
Lee Ann has only six months left before she completes her psychology degree in France. Since she has left Hong Kong, she has been working on one hand and going to school on the other. On top of that, she has been taking care of a father that has been stricken with cancer. Despite only being at the tender age of twenty-one, Lee Ann has not complained about her burden. On the contrary, adversity has only made her work harder. Off from school for the Christmas holidays, Lee Ann flew to Hong Kong to work at various modeling jobs and shoot a few commercials. All so she could make some money to pay her tuition and to help out at home. "I had one week of holidays. Once they started, I flew immediately to Hong Kong. Each of the seven days I was off, my manager arranged work for me each day from morning until night. Although I didn't get to rest at all, it doesn't matter because I made some money!"
