Straight out of the shell, Perpetual Emnity was living up to his name. He boldy declared that he would have none of the candidates and stalked off on his own, feeding himself and not letting anyone near him. As a hatchling Perpetual Emnity had hated all the other hatchlings. They were all so weak. They depended on their bonds completely, even willing to follow them to their deaths. Perpetual Emnity thought htis was pure idiocy. Dragons were the superior race in every way and shouldn't bind themselves to the weaker humans.

As he grew into adulthood, his hatred grew, if it was even possible. He prowled Cy alone and alone he slept in his chambers at night.

"Why don't you at least try to bond?" suggested Highknight M*jora one day as he saw Emnity stalking around Cy.

Why don't you at least try to jump off a bridge? suggested Emnity in a mock-sweet tone. You'd be doing us all a favor. M*jora hmphed crankily and left Perpetual Emnity alone, that was the way it had always been.

Perpetual Emnity did, however, participate in a flight frenzy. It was called the Wyld Whirl, all the dragons there would either be bondless or bonded to another dragon. That was ideal. Perpetual Emnity didn't have a problem with dragons bonding dragons. Then it was two superior beings teaming together for the greater good of both. When a dragon bonded a human the dragon received nothing but companionship. It wasn't a fair trade for all the work the dragon would have to end up doing for the human.

It was this way that Perpetual Emnity bred, catching the black-red Ialissa who shared some of his same views about humans. After the clutch was laid, he came back in Cy, right in time for the war.

You expect me to fight for some silly bunch of humans who got themselves into trouble and can't get themselves out of it? asked Perpetual Emnity in an incredulous tone as Headknight G*non glared up at him.

"Yes I do. Ever since you hatched you've just been sitting around Cy moaning and groaning about what a bunch of idiots we humans are. Well, Cy has been feeding and housing you so the least I'm asking for is a bit of obedience."

Perpetual Emnity reared back in anger.
Obedience? To a human? NEVER! He snarled viciously at G*non who held his ground.

"Then I'm asking you to leave Cy," he said calmy and firmly. Perpetual Emnity growled and spat but G*non stayed put. "You can come back when you are ready to help." With that, he turned and left. Perpetual Emnity glared at his receeding figure.

He was angry, furious even at the gall that G*non had shown. Kicking him out of here like he was some hatchling, the insult was almost unbearable. He had never been quite happy at Cy but that still didn't give G*non any right to tell him to leave. It wasn't the leaving that he mattered but the ordering. If he left then he would be obeying the orders of a human and that was intolerable. Or... Perpetual Emnity thought. Maybe he should leave. Maybe he should leave and find a proper draconic bond and then return. G*non could tell one bondless dragon to leave but if there were two then they were a team, a bonded pair and something that G*non had to put up with.

But who?

Perpetual Emnity didn't want just any dragon for his bond, he wanted someone with similar views. He had gathered many locations from other dragons so he would be able to go many places on his search. First he would visit the larger places, the ones more likely to have abandoned dragons that would fit his qualifications. If he couldn't find them at one place then he would go somewhere else until he found one, it was easy as that. First, he would go to Ryslen. They hatched many dragons and therefore must have many abandoned. Perpetual Emnity flapped his red wings and was off to Ryslen, to try to find a bond.

Ryslen was a disapointment. All of the dragons there were too mild-mannered, waiting patiently until their new bond would come, their new human bond. Perpetual Emnity left in disgust. He left for the next place, Abri, but had similar luck. Dragon center after dragon center was visited and still Perpetual Emnity found no one. He was as angry as ever and getting impatient when he visited Maura Lynna Weyr.

He stalked into the abandoned section, wondering what ninnies he would meet today. The only dragon there was a gold, curled up and seemingly dosing.
Waiting for your human to come? asked Perpetual Emnity unpleasantly as he walked up to the golden dragon.

No, waiting for yours to show you the exit? she snapped back, equally unpleasant.

I don't have a bond
, snarled Perpetual Emnity. And I never will. Humans are vile creatures and I will share my mind with none of them!

I agree, of all the creatures I have met humans are the lowest.
The gold had not forgotten the human who she had trusted, the human who had abandoned her.

I wish they would let the dragon race live in dignity.

I wish they would just LEAVE ME ALONE!

Why can't they just crawl back to wherever they came from?

Why can't they all just stop treating you like you are nothing but an animal?

Why can't- Perpetual Emnity stopped mid-sentence, staring at the gold. This was it, she agreed with him and seemed to hate humans just as much as he did. What did you say? he asked in a softer voice than he had used for a long time.

I said that you can't trust them! One moment they are your best friend and the next they are out of your life faster than a male to mate. Can't trust them... she growled to herself, lashing her tail about the room.

Finally, someone who agreed with him! Perpetualy Emnity had found the only creature in all the worlds that he would like to bond to, but would she feel the same way?
This time they will not get rid of me so easily, growled Perpetual Emnity as he and Festyth spiraled down towards Cy.

They will not get rid of us so easily, you mean, remarked Festyth as she landed neatly.

Hm, yes, said Emnity as he too folded his wings in landing. G*non would probably not be at Cy currently, he had a war on his hands. However, Perpetual Emnity knew that G*non had left behind a crescent of dragons and he would deal with them first.

As the two dragons strode forward towards Cy, the watchdragon blinked in recognition. On watch today was brown Saporoth and S'ret, both having had bad encounters with Perpetual Emnity previously. S'ret seemed to remember this and began to look nervous. It was because of this that Saporoth was the one who first made contact with Emnity and Festyth.

You who have been banished from Cy, he said, first addressing Perpetual Emnity. And you, golden queen who has just arrived, Festyth pierced the brown with a glare but he didn't back down. State your business at Cy or begone, or even more preferebly, both. He stopped a little bit anxiously, waiting to see how the two other dragons would take his speech.

We have come to live here, said Perpetual Emnity, taking a few steps towards the entrance.

Yes, this will be our home from now on, said Festyth, closing much of the distance between her and the brown.

And we will eat our fill of the food.

And sleep in the chambers here without disturbance. Especially from humans.

Is that understood?

Saporoth suddenly found himself being stared down by two dragons, one the same size as himself and one much larger. He did what any dragon would have done in the situation. He gave in.
Of course! he said as he backed away from the entrance. Make yourself at home. Cy Dragonstake welcomes you.

Heads held high, Perpetual Emnity and Festyth walked by the brown watchdragon, into Cy with even less trouble than they thought.

"Wimp," muttered S'ret to his dragon who rumbled apoligetically.

Perpetual Emnity was back and with a partner in crime, who knows what they would soon accomplish!
