Who was H.L. Bourgeois?

Henry Louis Bourgeois, born July 29, 1887, at the plantation home of his great grandfather near Convent in St. James Parish, served as a teacher and principal at such schools as Thibodaux College, Belle Rose High School, and Romeville High School before accepting the job of Superintendent of Terrebonne Parish Schools in 1914. At the time, H. L. Bourgeois was only 27 years old.

For 41 years thereafter , H. L. Bourgeois dedicated himself to giving every child in the parish equal instruction and facilities. It is for this untiring devotion to education and youth that the school was named in his honor. (Houma Courier, 1973)
