I couldn't do a page on Disney heroines without giving mention to a few of the legendary villains that have graced our screens. There is lots of research all over the Internet dedicated to both the male and female Disney villains, and since my project is not on them, I won't add lots here.
The most noticable attribute that the female Disney villains have is their age; the female villains are always a lot older than the heroines. Don't believe me? Look at Ursula and Ariel, or Cinderella and her Wicked Stepmother, to name but two. Although their appearance and character may always be slightly exaggerated, the female villains have always be shown to be a lot more clever than the male counterparts. Look at Cruella DeVille and her bumbling male sidekicks for proof.
Another things that always made me like the females is the sly way in which they use their powerful sexuality to get their own way. You wouldn't catch Scar from 'The Lion King' flirting with Mufasa or the hyenas to get a point across, but just think of Ursula's method of entrapping Eric in 'The Little Mermaid'. She stole Ariel's voice and transformed herself into a gorgeous leggy brunette, talk about class! And it's not just her. Take a look at any of the below pictures for proof that the female Disney villains are smart, sexy and sassy. |
