DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN |
|
|
|
Did you ever notice in the walk of life, when old pals meet again, they will stand there grinning till one of them asks, do you remember when? |

I have pondered this and studied this but it seems to never end, when our thoughts return to yesteryear, and do you remember when? |

Do you remember when old pal, we went on liberty, Court Street down in Jacksonville was the place to be. We sat there in some dim-lit bar, amidst the smoke and din, ah yes, old friend as sure as rain, I do remember when. |

Do you remember the flight line at New River way back then, night flying and the endless days, I'll never forget old old pal of mine, I still remember when. |

Do you remember the salty pilots of old two sixty one? They'd drop from the sky like a wing-shot hawk, auto-rotating with a grin, and the first time scared me half to death, HELL yes, I remember when! |

Do you remember the chow hall, Sunday brunch and sleeping in, waking up starved, hung over and sick, oh god! Do I remember when! |

Do you remember the old Antietam, clean sweep-down fore and aft, the smoking lamp was never lit and the chow lines had no end, Oh yes old friend I'll never forget, I do remember when. |

Do you remember Pohang, a land most strange to our eyes, the papa-sans with their stovepipe hats, and the children with hungry eyes. I doubt old pal if we'll ever go back to old Pohang again, but through the years in heart and mind, I still remember when. |

So life comes and goes and the years speed by, and our ranks are growing thin, but we still ask when we gather as now, do you remember when? |

Let us hope and pray history never forgets, the bond of 261, and forever stands the memory of Marines who served back then. And someday those who follow after will ask of a pal with a grin, when we grow old and live in the past, will you still remember when........? |
