RACING AREA & COURSES

Racing is Midmar Dam. Howick.

The courses to be sailed, shall be medium distance around fixed HMYC marks, and will be explained at each Briefing.

BRIEFINGS

There shall be a compulsory briefing each sailing day, scheduled for 12h00, except in the case of a previously abandoned race being resailed at a later date in which case the briefing shall be scheduled for 10h00.  All entries shall be present at the Briefing and shall sign the attendance register. Failure to attend or/ and sign the  attendance register, shall result in an immediate time penalty of 5% being applied to that entry’s finishing time for the first race sailed thereafter.

BRIDGE DUTIES

Where a boat can not  sail a race due to it’s helm or crew having to be on Bridge duty as per  Calendar, then that entry shall be awarded points equal to their BEST result over the course of the Series.  Therefore, the points allocated at the time of  Duty, may change by the end of the series, if a better result is subsequently achieved.

Where applicable, if  a boat’s representative fails to serve their Bridge Duty as defined in the Grand Slam Calendar, that entry shall score a DSQ for each respective race sailed on the Race Day the Boat’s representative was elected to stand Bridge Duty, to a maximum of two DSQ’s.  [a DSQ score is not discardable].

SCORING SYSTEM

The low point scoring system, RRS A4 will apply for LINE HONOURS, and the Von Klemperer Series Handicap System shall apply for HANDICAP RESULTS.

  1. When 4 races or fewer have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores.
  2. When  5 races have been completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race.

.

HANDICAP SYSTEM

The Von Klemperer Series Handicap System is based on;

Ø       Hunter’s being  rated as the Scratch Boat rating [rated 0]

Ø       Skipper’s ability, based on previous results and updated every  race completed.

Ø       Ratings –  Skippers are awarded rating factors from 0 to a maximum of 20.  With 0 being scratch, and 20 being the maximum. The rating signifies the minutes, based on 100 minutes of sailing, a skipper is afforded in handicap, over a scratch skipper.

Handicaps will be posted on the NOTICE BOARD prior to each race event.  Skippers who feel their Handicaps are inaccurate, may apply to the Race Committee for a re-evaluation, subject to them applying in writing and giving meaningful motivation, and subject to such being lodged with the Race Committee no later than the end of each respective Protest Period after  each race event. The Race Committee’s decision shall be final and no correspondence thereafter shall be entered into.
