CD DATA 20 MAR 2002 || HYDE ~THE INNERZONE~

'First record I bought was 'Off Course' (Japanese duo)'s single, which was called 'Toki ni Ai ha'. I went to their concert as well. '

'I started to go to live houses later. I remember *'GASTUNK' , that was at Egg Plant in Osaka, probably. I was so shocked when I see their gig at first time. I had seen to some hard core band before that but their gig was so shocking, I had never seen like that in my experience.'(*GASTUNK was Positive Punk /Heavy Metal band in mid-late 80's.)

'I wanted to be a painter when I was a child. I only listened music until .. I was in grammer school student. I started to listen hard rock then I became to want to play guitar. I bought an electric guitar, that was Jimmy (of *'44 MAGNUM') model. (laugh) I likes *Michael Schenker so wanted to get Flying V. I'm small so Jimmy model was good size for me.' (*44 MAGNUM was the hard rock band based in Osaka in 80's. They reunioned recenry.) (*Michael Schenker is German hard rock guitarist, once in his elder brother's band, Scorpions, then joined UFO, later became solo. Famous in 80's)

'I began to think to play in a band since I saw Motley Crue. First tune I could play on my guitar was one of their songs so I started to play that tune in the band. After that I began to play what I wanted and searched for my ideal band.. I had an image of it but there wasn't any bands.. I was looking for hard rock band with dark image.. not like Ozzy Osbourne.. more sounds like punk rock. I bought *Misfits record although I bought it by its cover, their sound was very good. That was just fit to my image of the band in my head. GASTUNK, too. (*Misfits was early 80's punk/hard rock band based in Osaka, they were very famous in indies.)

'I began writing songs after playing in a band for a while, playing somebody's songs getting .. sort of boring. That's the same reason as I like to draw more than watching drawings.'

'I'm still influenced by Depeche Mode. Duran Duran, too. David Sylvian is in between them. I like his solo. I don't know why but I was so into his music after the boom of New Wave (New Romantic), It was like . .. I was spelt by his music. He is still one of my favourite, and probably I would say he will be one of my favourite even after 10 years.'

'Bjork's 'Dancing In The Dark' was great. That orchestra was so briilant. I can not make songs like that now.'
Q:Do you want to work with Bjork?
'I'm not interested in working with somebody...'
Q:What about someone to sing your songs ?
'Yes. I write songs and I can chose instruments but I can not chose my voice. Sing my song somebody else is okay. I'm not interested in particular voice ..though I want women to sing songs in whispering voice.'

Q:Is there any painter you like ?
'Not paticularly.. but I have some Kaneko Kuniyosi(?)'s paintings. His paintings are not like mine.. I don't paint, now. that's why I think I have a feeling like like this.. If I paint, I would like to put mine on the wall.'
Q:To draw and to write songs are similar things ?
'I think the procedure for creating something is the same.'

Q:Is there any meaning in the CD covers of your 3 singles ?
'There is no meaning. Flowers are women in my mind. I often used it to describe women or life.'
Q:If so, 'flower and coffin' => 'live and death' ?
'Ah, that's like fortune telling.. but flower and coffin shape case are only for design. I wanted to design something which everybody want to display in their room.
