The Standing Committee of the National Assembly approved Prime Minister Phan Van Khai's proposals regarding senior government officers on January 28, 2000.
Under the chairmanship of its Chairman Nong Duc Manh and in the presence of Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh, the committee passed a resolution ratifying the Prime Minister's proposals concerning the following posts:
- Nguyen Manh Cam is relieved from his position as foreign minister in order to focus on his duties as deputy prime minister.
- Nguyen Dy Nien is promoted to foreign minister from his current post of deputy foreign minister.
- Truong Dinh Tuyen is relieved of his post as trade minister to take another assignment.
- Vu Khoan is appointed trade minister from his current post of standing deputy foreign minister.
According to the proposal of the Supreme People's Court, the NA Standing Committee discussed and adopted a resolution on the implementation of Item 3 of the National Assembly's resolution on the enforcement of the Criminal Code.
