Analysis:Claire Catwing's pregnancy should have been a wonderful time. After five years of marriage to Robert Sean Catwing, she was finally expecting their first child. The overjoyed couple spent each week in absolute glee as they went from shop to shop, choosing the decor and necessities for the new nursery. But nothing could prepare them for the horrific event that occurred on one cold evening in January. While walking home after a friend's baby shower, Claire Catwing was attacked from behind. Before she could retaliate, the assailant stabbed her repeatedly and ran off with her purse. Remarkably, the bleeding young woman managed to drag herself for five minutes before collapsing in the doorway of a cauldron repair shop. The horrified manager himself discovered her and his son contacted Mr. Catwing. When Robert arrived at the shop a few minutes later, paramedics were already placing his wife into an ambulance and it seemed all the hopes and dreams they had longed to fulfill were condemned to die that night.

Once he reached the hospital, a doctor informed him of a disturbing development: while Claire's condition had stabilized, the Catwings' unborn child would die unless she were given an immediate blood transfusion. Robert, weakened from a severe case of pneumonia, gave his consent, knowing it was the only way to save his daughter. As a further precaution, Professor Benjamin Lassen was dispatched to the hospital with a special potion concocted for the medical staff to give to the baby in order to reduce the mortality risks.

Robert could only sit in the waiting room and pray while the doctors labored to save his daughter's life.
