Chapter 13 "Sarah, Sarah, Sarah. I got it," Sam said, staring at the package the bellhop had just delivered. She handed it to Sarah. "You open it. I can't." Sarah opened the envelope and pulled out the papers. "Dear Ms. Cameron," she read. "We at Random House, would like to extend our congratulations on your book. Random House would be honored to publish it, along with the other of the series." "Oh my God," Sam screamed. "They accepted it, they accepted it." She was jumping around the site, estastic. "Sam, calm down and read the rest of the papers," Sarah said. "Then we can celebrate." Sam took a deep breath and sat on the couch. Sarah handed her the papers. Sam read over the papers. They were giving her a six figure after each book. A few days later, Sam sent the paperwork back. While they were in Italy, Sam met with a man who worked in Europe for Random House. They discussed the basics of the offer; Sam arranged to meet with a representative in August, when she was settled in Florida. The entire trip was fun. Sarah's birthday was in July, and they celebrated it by spending a day at a spa, relaxing. After five hours of shopping of course. It was the end of July when they got back to LA. Sarah's father met them and drove them home. They slept the rest of the day, Wednesday, and all day Thursday. Friday, Sarah called Chris. They talked for a little while, then Sarah talked to Bri, who was still in New York; she'd looked at the apartment and had fallen in love with it. It would be perfect for the three of them. But she waited to make any decisions; Sarah and Sam still needed to see it. "We'll all fly to Florida Monday, and look at the apartment. Anything interesting happen while we were gone?" Sarah asked, collapsing on her bed. "Lesley moved in with JC and Joey, and Joey now spends more time at Justin's then he does at his own home," Bri replied. "I hate her so much. And JC is acting so blind and stupid," Sarah said, the disgust she felt evident in her voice. "I agree," Bri said. "But on a happier note, Lance and I have gone on four dates." "And I missed 'em?" Sarah sighed. "What sacrifices I made to go to Europe." Then she laughed. "Did you two have fun? Do you think it might turn into something more than just seeing each other?" "Yes, we had fun. And Lance and I are now dating each other exclusively. I hope it turns into something more though." Bri sighed dreamily, already hoping to hear wedding bells. She'd been in love with Lance for a year. "You two make a cute couple," Sarah commented, looking at a picture of the guys, Sam, Bri and herself. Lance and Bri were standing next to each other, Lance's arm around Bri. "I think so, Bri said, laughing. "And I hope we move in the apartment. It's only a five minute drive from Lance's place. "I'm not entirely sure if I want to move in right next to my boyfriend." Sarah sighed. "What if we break up or something?" "Sarah, I doubt you and Chris will break up. Chris has been doing some pretty heavy thinking. He is nearly thirty." "And?" "He's thinking it's time for him to settle down, and start a family. And he does love you." "And I love him. But starting a family." Sarah stared at her ceiling, thoughts running through her head. "I'm not sure or anything. I probably shouldn't have even told you he was thinking about it. But it just slipped out." "Don't worry; he won't find out that you told me." "Thanks. See you Monday." "Bye." JC walked in the studio. He was the only one there. The others were coming, but he wanted to get there early. He needed to think; and he couldn't do that at home, not with Lesley there. Their manager had called them earlier, explaining that they needed to redo a song for the album. So although it was a Saturday, they agreed to come in. Justin and Joey walked in a few minutes later. "I introduced George Armand to Sam, and he fell in love with her," Justin explained, as they walked in. "So that's why you went to Europe? To introduce our sweet Sam to him?" "Yep. He offered Sam a job." "Do you think she'll accept?" Joey inquired. "Yeah, I think she will. I can't wait until they move out here. I'm going to ask Sam out again." "Well, if she does become and Armand model, you'd better stake your claim. Otherwise, you won't be able to see, the guys will be surrounding her that much." "I intend to be the one right by her side," Justin told his friend, as they sat down. "Hey, JC. When did you get here?" "Just a few minutes ago," JC replied. I want to be the one by her side, he thought, envy filling his heart. "What did you mean Sam's going to be surrounded by men?" He hadn't heard Justin explain the offer of a job. "Sam's been offered a job as a model with George Armand," Justin informed him. "If she does take it, and she will, she's going to become famous." Justin grinned. "And I, lucky man that I am, will be right there, by her side. Iwas the one that introduced Sam and George, so neither of them will forget me, and I can wrangle invitations to any parties thrown to celebrat Sam's career." "And, if you and Sam get close, the two of you can.. celebrate in your own way." Joey winked at him, his implications clear. "Don't you dare, Justin," JC exploded, bursting from his chair. Justin and Joey stared at JC He was leaning on the table glaring at Justin. "JC, man, just because you don't want her, doesn't mean anyone else can't have her. She aint your property," Justin said. "And I don't see why you're so upset. You've got a girl. Besides, you don't even know if Sam and I have already gotten close." Oh but I do want her. "Have you two fucked each other?" Justin thought about lying for a few seconds. But looking at his friend, the desperation in his eyes, he found he couldn't tell JC the lie. "No, we haven't. Yet." JC walked out of the room, heading for the bathroom. He didn't know what just happened. When he heard Joey describe the private "celebration; between Justin and Sam, something inside had snapped. He couldn't bear the thougth of Sam fucking another guy. But she would one day, And how would he deal with that?" Justin's mouth curved into a smile as he watched JC walk out of the room. So JC was distrubed by the thought of Sam sleeping with a guy? Then the next few months would be quite interesting. He'd meant it when he said he was going to be at her side at any parties they atteded together. And whenever they could, they were going to spend time together. If JC didn't wake up soon, Justin fully intended to suduce Sam, and get her to fall in love with him. Chris stared at the small ring box he was holding. He snapped it open. The diamonds sruuounding the ruby caught the light and threw fire around the room. When should he ask her? On Monday when they came out to look at the apartment? Or after they were settled? He sighed, closing the box and putting it in the drawer. He needed to get to the studio. Everyone else was probably already there. |
