Chapter 2 Kristin tossed and turned, her dreams haunting her sub conscience. JC's face was permanently engraved in her mind this night, for reasons she didn't know. She sat up quickly, her face dripping with sweat. "Why can he just leave me alone?" she whispered not knowing she wasn't the only one awake. "What are you talking about?" Libby's groggy voice came from below her. "Nothing. Go back to sleep, Libby." Before Kristin's words had even left her mouth, Libby had already fallen asleep. Kristin sighed, her mind drifting off to her dreams again. As her eyes drifted closed, JC's face appeared once again. Her eyes shot open and she quickly sat up. God he won't leave me alone! Why won't he leave me alone? Kristin climbed out of the bed being careful not to step on Libby as she slept peacefully on the pull out bed below her. She quietly walked down the steps of their two-story home where she paid rent.. Walking into the kitchen she turned on the light. She was surprised to see JC sitting at the counter over a warm cup of coffee. He looked up and his eyes met her tired ones. "What are you doing here?" he asked, instant anger in his voice. "I should be the one asking questions since I live here." "Joey asked me to stay the night so I did." JC looked at his watch. "What are you doing up so late?" "Aren't we nosey? If you must know, I couldn't sleep." JC shook his head. "Tsk, tsk. Can't stop dreaming about me, can you Kristin?" "Ugh, you're such a dick!" Kristin declared pulling out the stool next to him. She looked over into his cup. "What are you drinking?" "Coffee." Kristin looked at him as if he were stupid. "You can't sleep, so you're drinking coffee?" "You know, I didn't come in here to get harassed by you." "Why are you here?" "I told you. Joey told me I could stay here." "But why? You have an apartment. Why aren't you there? Not bugging me." "I'm going to bed. I don't have the luxury of staying up all-night and sleeping all day. Not everyone can be lazy like some people." JC began to make his way out of the kitchen, but the sound of Kristin's angry voice stooped him. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?!" Kristin walked past him and stood in front of him. "Um, it means exactly what I said." "Where do you come off calling me lazy?! If it isn't the spoiled brat telling me how easy I've got it." "How am I spoiled?!" "'Daddy,'" Kristin said pretending her hand was a phone, "'yeah, I need a brand new 2001 Mustang. And can you pay my way through college so you can give me a job in your office that I'm under qualified for. Yeah, thanks.'" Kristin looked at JC smugly. "I earned my job at my father's office." "Sure you did." "You have no idea how hard I work. You don't know how hard my life is." "Oh, I'm sorry. You must have confused me with someone who gives a crap. You got it easy compared to me." Kristin crossed her arms over her chest. The swinging door to the kitchen opened and Joey and Libby stood their, anger present in here faces. "What is the big idea? Were you trying to wake everyone in the house up?" Joey sculled. "Kristin, come with me. I think we're going to have to forbid you two from speaking to one another." "Fine by me," JC said walking past Kristin out of the kitchen. "Me too," Kristin said loud enough for JC to hear. Libby watched as her friend left the room. She turned to her brother and sighed. "What are we going to do with them?" Joey smiled. "We're going to wait until they step off their high horse and admit their feelings for each other." ********************************************************************************************* Kristin sat in her bed, her eyes open staring up at the ceiling. She sighed thinking of JC's hurtful words. Normally what he said rolled off her like water off a ducks back. But this time it was different. This time, it hurt. If he only knew what it was like to be me. I wish he could know what it was like to be me. |
