A Railroad Community

Amory was established by the K.C.M. & B. Railroad at a halfway point between Memphis, Tennessee and Birmingham, Alabama and was named after a railroad magnate, Harcourt Amory. The town was plotted and the first lots were sold at
auction on November 15, 16 and 17, 1887. Incorporation followed in 1888 and people rushed in to buy property.
