The Hockanum Valley Community
Council is a multi-program social agency
dedicated to the development and implementation
of programs designed to assist those Tri-town
residents, who are of low income status including
the elderly, disabled, minority, single parents,
educationally or otherwise disadvantaged. Hockanum Valley helps by
feeding the hungry and providing clothing and
household goods to poor families through our Basic Needs
Program. HVCC also conducts workshops on
budgeting, energy savings, low cost nutrition and
related topics to help our clients help
themselves by discovering and using their own
resources.
HVCC Elder Services seeks out senior
residents of the Vernon area and discovers those
who need help - many do. Help getting proper
medical care, help keeping their homes in repair,
help dealing with medical, state and town
bureaucracies, help facing the day and remaining
in the community. Outreach, counseling, social
support, friendly visitor, and chore services -
all help our seniors.
The blue and
white buses and vans from HVCC
Transportation provide rides
for senior residents of Vernon, Ellington,
Tolland and Manchester. We provide rides to and
from medical appointments, personal care, and
shopping. Many seniors tell us that they could
not continue to remain in their homes if not for
the HVCC Dial-A-Ride.
Our Mental Health
Services include family
and couples counseling, mental health services
and substance abuse treatment. Psychiatric
evaluation and medication review are available.
HVCC is one of the few places where individuals
can get treatment on a sliding fee scale. We are
Medicaid and Medicare eligible.
