First Step: Writing Animal Reports
Each child selected an animal to study. First we filled in a graphic organizer with such information as type of animal, size, habitat, predators and what it ate. The next step was to use that information to write a paragraph about the animal. Then, after a conference with the teacher the report was typed onto the computer by the child.
The final step of the report was to read it to the class. The reports are hanging in the hall and later will be put into a class book.
Second Step: Now the fun creative part!
Making an animal and its habitat.
The children had a choice to color or paint their habitat shoe box. Then rocks, twigs and pinecones were added for details.
Once the habitats were finished it was finally time to make the nocturnal animal about of Model Magic. The children could make as many critters as they wanted out of their piece of clay. The next day the animals were painted. Our reports and habitats were on display for parent conferences.
