Fun Things to do This Summer!

1.  Look at a book and make up your own story to go along with the pictures.

2.  Read a book.

3.  Use your favorite stuffed animals and make up a play.

4.  Send a postcard to an out of state friend or relative.

5.  E-mail a friend or relative.

6.  Find a favorite drawing or painting. Go outside with some sidewalk chalk and try to duplicate the picture on your driveway.

7.  Use the chalk to practice writing numbers, letters, names and words you know.

8.  Play hopscotch.

9.  Go to the library. Try to sign up for the summer program.

10. Learn some jump rope jingles. You can find books with jingles at the library.  Now, practice jump roping and saying the jingles.

11. Have someone help you read a recipe and make Jell-O, cookies, cupcakes etc.

12. Ask if you can fill up the sink with water and play with the measuring cups and spoons. Find out how many ¼ cups does it take to fill up 1 cup?  How many ½ cups? What else can you discover?

13. Plant some seeds. Once a week draw a picture of your plant as it grows. Use a ruler to measure it and write the measurement next to your drawing.

14. Use mud, twigs, sting, etc. and try to make a bird nest. Make up a story about the bird that  would live in your nest. Write a recipe for making a bird nest.

15. Look for shapes outside. Find a circle, square, rectangle and triangle.

16. Trace your foot; find 4 things in your house that are 1 foot long.

17. Name foods that are red, green, yellow, orange, purple and blue.

18. Pour out a small bag of M&M candies or a handful of Fruit Loops. Sort them by color. Which color do have the most of? Which do you have the least of?

19. Using marshmallows, peanut butter, pretzel sticks and raisins make a creature. Write a sentence about him, then eat him up!

20. Fold paper to make a book. On each page write I can _______.  Then draw pictures to go with your sentences.

21. Make a number book. On each page write a numeral, the number word and draw that many objects.

22. Make a color book. On each page write a color word and draw an object that is that color.

23. Go outside and collect leaves, flowers etc. Make a picture using what you found.

24. In your house find 4 things shorter and you and 4 things taller than you.

25. Go for a listening walk around your neighborhood. How many different sounds can you hear?

26. Before you eat a fruit with seeds estimate how many seeds are inside. Count them, was your estimate right?

27. Do edible addition and subtraction with small foods like fish crackers, cereal etc. After you are done adding subtract them by eating them!

28. Go outside and make a list of 5 living and 5 non-living things.

29. Trace your hand. On each finger write one thing you like to do.

30. Write a letter to me and I'll write back to you.
