07/30/2002 - GRIER SIGNS ONE-YEAR DEAL HENRY REACHES NEW AGREEMENT The Edmonton Oilers have announced the signings of forward Mike Grier and defenceman Alex Henry, both to one-year contracts. Grier will join the Oilers for his sixth season. In 448 games with the Oilers, the 6’1, 227 pound forward has scored 81 goals and 102 assists for 183 points, while adding 292 penalty minutes. Last season Grier scored eight goals and 17 assists for 25 points as he battled back from major shoulder surgery. General Manager Kevin Lowe says he expects Grier will continue to be a leader on and off the ice and is certain his productivity will increase. In Lowe’s words, “Mike has been an exceptional leader from the time he put on the Oilers jersey and we look forward to his continued contribution. We also anticipate a full season with Mike 100 percent healthy. His health has held him back the past two seasons and we expect we will see Mike return to the form which made him a dominant power forward.” Henry, a 6’5” 220 pound defenceman, has spent the last three seasons with the Edmonton Oilers American Hockey League affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs. The Oilers drafted the rugged defenceman in the third round, 67th overall, in the 1998 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Vice-President of Hockey Operations Kevin Prendergast says, “We are glad to have Alex back for the upcoming season. His toughness and size are attributes that we look for. Alex has the ability to make an impact at camp this year and we look for him to make a serious run at the open spots on defence.” The defensive specialist played 69 games last season while registering four goals and 12 assists for 16 points and 143 penalty minutes. |

06/27/2002 - OILERS AND HAMILTON GROUP REACH AGREEMENT The Edmonton Oilers have entered into an agreement under which the Hamilton Business group will manage the franchise’s business operations for the 2002/03 American Hockey League season. The agreement would entail the new ownership consortium taking over the day- to- day business operations of the team, while the Edmonton Oilers would retain control of the hockey operations. The Oilers would also continue to sit on the Board of Governors of the AHL. Any profits from the operations of the franchise would go to the new ownership group, and the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to contribute in a significant fashion to certain business losses. To further demonstrate their commitment to the franchise in Hamilton, the Oilers have made several important concessions, including sharing the AHL territory in Southern Ontario and gifting the Hamilton Bulldogs name, logos and registered trademarks to the City of Hamilton. Oilers Assistant General Manager Scott Howson says the Oilers have always been committed to ensuring professional hockey stays in Hamilton, and the working agreement with the local business group goes a long way to achieving that goal. The agent for the Hamilton group, Don Robertson, says, “We are very excited about taking another positive step toward having the team ready to go for the 2002/2003 season. We are pleased that the Edmonton Oilers have made this commitment, and we look forward to working with them.” 06/27/2002 - OILERS AND HAMILTON GROUP REACH AGREEMENT The Edmonton Oilers have entered into an agreement under which the Hamilton Business group will manage the franchise’s business operations for the 2002/03 American Hockey League season.
