It doesn't feel like I only saw them 10 months ago in Madisonville, but it was exactly, to the day. It was the first time I had gotten to see them live with George Baldi, the bass with the task of replacing Barry Carl. I didn't doubt that George could rattle the rafters like Bear, but seeing him perform live was amazing! George growled out the coolest version of "You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch," one that I think rivals the original recording. I do have to wonder what the hell they do before the show since they've been so slap happy for the last few I've been to. Whatever it is, it provides some pretty funny moments on stage. Jeff's VP spitfest clocked in around 1:45 minutes. When I went to get my CD signed after the show, I stopped to introduce myself to George, but Jeff saw me standing there and said "hi." He also proceeded to tell me he needed to pet my fuzzy shirt. Oh what a horrible thing that was. :) Nice to know I'm not the only tactile person around. |
