5 Point Harness Install

Many people thought that I was dumb to install a 5 Point Harness in my CRX. They aid there was no point. I disagree. A harness will hold you in your seat much better that the stock harness. It makes you feel like you are part f the car, not riding in it. When you go ripping around corners you are no longer holding on for dear life, you are just staying put in the seat. I purchased mine off EBAY for $40. If you do this, make sure you get a floor mount harness and not a roll bar mount harness. It won't work without a roll cage(obviously).

The installation isn't really all that complicated. The first step is to remove both lap belt connections where they hook up to the body. You then bolt in the harness lap bet with the same hardware.Lap belt install For the shoulder belts, it is slightly more tricky. Depending what style harness you have, the mounting positions could vary. picture1 picture2 Mine goes into a single eyelet. Make sure that the harness goes straight back and not off to one side. Also, don't be afraid to chop up your interior, it is neccessary on most cars. If you are bolting your shoulder harness to a non-structural piece of your car, make sure that you use a big washer to distribute the force evenly. If you do not, a hard impact will rip the bolt out. On the Anti-submarine belt(the bottom strap) on most installations you would drill a hole in the floor and bolt it in. I deceided that I didn't want to do that. I took some pretty beefy flat piece of steel and bolted it the front 2 bolts for the seat. I then bolted the harness to the piece of steel. Bottom Belt install

After the install I wondered how I ever lived without my harness. You are stuck to the seat! Ripping around corners is now not hazardous to your head. You and the window keep a nice safe distance. Although, you can't reach anything beyond your arms. You have to unstrap to roll down the passenger window, or chang the radio station. It also takes a lot longer to buckle it up.
