Vytautas JUOZAPAITAS was wonderful singing and convincing in the role as Don Giovanni at the Lithuanian National Opera, at the premiere of Don Giovanni, by W.A. Mozart, 11.th. october 2002.
The regi by the russian guest Jurij ALEKSANDROV and the set design and costumes by Viaceslav OKUNEV also from Russia maked an enchanting frame, with beautiful lightdesign around this pearl in the opera world.
The entire cast, conducted by Jonas ALEKSA and headed by Vytautas JOOZAPAITAS in the titel role, brilliantly folowed up by the rest of the cast, Vladimiras PRUDNIKOVAS as Leoporello. Eugenijus VASILEVSKIS as the Commedatore. Alma BUZAITE as Donna Anna. The young tenor Audrius RUBEZIUS as Don Ottavio. Regina SILINSKAIT? as Donna Elvira.
The young pair Zerlina and Masetto was performed by Sigut? STONYTE and Arvydas MARKAUSKAS.
We enjoyed very much, that the operatheatre has done the performance in a classical way, and not have been following up the new ideas, there somewhere are, to transfer such an old opera, with an old history in to a new periode. What we offen are describing as "refrigerator operas", where every thing is white, or black, and the singers are not getting any decorations to help to characterise their roles and to telling the history.
