| On Sunday we headed for Brugge. Jim, Deb, Kate and Morgan wanted to bike the canal trails of Belgium. After deciding to brave the cloudy skies, we took off, and the sun rewarded us! Will and Laura turned back shortly (hurt wrist, etc.), but the others continued, almost reaching the Netherlands' border. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Brugges really is this picturesque. The canals are beautiful, but stinky in the summer! We took to calling it "Stinky Brugge." We stayed in Brugge Sunday night and had a wonderful dinner. Afterward, the kids got to play in the hotel pool (we LOVE Novotel!) It is well worth staying in Brugge overnight. It really settles down in the evening and the morning is very pleasant. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| On Monday we visited the Lace Museum and the Jerusalem Church (a replica of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem). After lunch al fresco, and more chocolate sampling, we quickly visited Michelangelo's Madonna and Child in one of the churches (see previous Brugge page on our website.) Then we headed out of town to the seashore in the Netherlands. This may have been one of the most pleasant surprises of the trip. We hadn't really planned to go to the seashore, it just seemed like a good idea - and it was! The kids had a great time and we got to breathe in the salt air! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| On Tuesday we decided to give the kids a break and let them play at home all morning. Deb and I did a little shopping and had a wonderful time together (thanks to Jim!) In the afternoon we went to the Beersel Castle ruin, which is only 15 minutes from our house. Note the three princesses in the tower! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Wednesday was our last day together. I took the kids to Parc Paradisio, while Jim and Deb visited museums in Brussels. The kids had a great time with the animals and playing on the playground. We spent the entire sunny day there, and it was a perfect way for the kids to wrap up their time together. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Early Thursday morning, Jim, Deb, Kate and Morgan headed home to Colorado. We had a really wonderful time with them and really appreciate them coming over. This was a very special time for all of us and we look forward to many more adventures together back in Colorado. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
