Ferncliff Peninsula Natural Area, Ohiopyle |
|||||
Once again another place I love. Ohiopyle State Park has rafting, hiking, fishing and mountain biking. Its like a big jungle jim to me and mom isn't around to tell me not to climb so high. I started going here when I was eight that was the first time I took a raft trip down the rapids. Thanks Dad for talking mom into that, if she only knew we would lose the map and go over a waterfall... No! not the big waterfall, there is a smaller one down stream we got caught up on until everybody was thrown out of the raft but me. I was rambling huh? Anyways Ohiopyle is not to be missed out on! Directions: From Pittsburgh drive east on I-70/76 and take the Donegal exit. Drive east on PA 31 and make a right onto PA 381 at Jones Mills. Drive a little over 20 miles south to Ohiopyle cross two railroad tracks at Ohiopyle and make a right into a parking lot and you want to start the hike between two boulders on the shale road. Discription: This trail is about a 2.5 mile loop that follows the Yough (Youghiogheny River) along a long bend in the river where it almost comes back on itself. The trail offers a great view of the Ohiopyle Waterfall and the Yough it self. Along the trail you may have to take little side trips to the river to view the rapids and the screaming people who thought it would be fun to raft them. There are boulders to walk on and educational points along the way. Dogs are allowed but only on a leash. |
