Herbert Von Karajan used to say that every conductor, should do Tosca once a year, to get all our aggression out of us, and it is true.;- (Zubin Mehta)

Tosca is one of
Puccini';s greatest masterpieces and best-loved operas.
It features some of the most popular arias in the operatic repertory and both "Recondita armonia" and "E lucevan le stelle" have become recital standards performed by the greatest operatic stars.

Andrea Bocelli is passionate about widening the audience of Italian opera and Tosca, with its vibrant sensuality and melodrama, greatly appealed to him:
"As a native of Tuscany and a Puccinian, I certainly feel comfortable with Puccini's characters, particularly the role of Cavaradossi who - is a man with a capital-. Not only is he Tosca's lover, he is also an artist and a man interested in and involved in politics. I've studied the character closely and I now feel I can really identify with him.";

Tosca is the second complete opera for Decca (the first being La Bohème: 464 060-2) and the third collaboration of
Andrea and Maestro Zubin Mehta, (Verdi: 464 600-2 was the first collaboration). He is also joined on this recording by Italian soprano Fiorenza Cedolins, who sang Tosca with Pavarotti in 1996, having won the international Luciano Pavarotti Voice Competition.

She has performed in many of the world's major venues and will debut at Munich's Bayerische Staatsoper this year with Il trovatore, conducted by
Zubin Mehta. Carlo Guelfi is singing Scarpia. Orchestro et coro del Maggio Musical Florentino. Conducted by Zubin Mehta.
