Game Summary
Blacksburg (AP) - The Hokies rolled over Kent State 59-0 in the opener for both teams. Chris Gary and Cornelius Taplin rotated at QB as Coach Fisher tried to determine who should be the team's starter. Ironically, both QB's threw for 146 yards while Taplin threw 3 TD's and Gary tossed 2 TD's. However, the freshman Taplin was sacked 5 times while the senior Gary rushed for 56 yards. Coach Fisher indicated that Gary would start the Marshall game, but Taplin would see significant playing time during the season. Reggie Esbjorn led the receivers with 10 catches for 144 yards and four scores (5,4,20,37). The defense which forced 5 turnovers was led by SS Lake Mobley with 10 tackles and a forced fumble. LB Shyrone Zeigler intercepted a pass and returned it 21 yards for a score. LB Junior Zala and DT Randy Pennington each had 2 sacks while CB Roland Spears and CB Ron Gast both intercepted passes.

Game Summary
Blacksburg (AP) - The Hokies recorded their 2nd straight shutout of 2010 as they blanked the Thundering Herd of Marshall 17-0. John Omens led the defense with 7 tackles while Junior Zala was credited with 5 tackles and 1 sack. The Hokies kept the game scoreless thanks to two big plays from offensive players Cade Meeks and Jeff Johnson. Meeks, a backup WR, disrupted a fake FG by Marshall when he raced in untouched and sacked the holder. Johnson, the Hokies starting FB, chased down the Herd's Don Wade after he chugged 48 yards following a fumble to prevent a score. The Hokies scored twice in the 1st quarter on two TD passes from Chris Gary to Reggie Esbjorn covering 40 and 5 yards. Henry Suber had another big game on the ground with 131 yards rushing while Harry Washington hit a career long 53 yard FG.

Western Michigan (1-2) 25

Game Summary
Blacksburg (AP) - The Hokies defense gave up their first points of the season, but the Hokies improved to 3-0 on the season with a 35-25 win over Western Michigan. The Broncos got on the board on a fumble recovery returned 56 yards by Stacey Faulk in the 1st quarter and a field goal in the 2nd quarter. However, the defense gave up a 3rd quarter TD when Western Michigan's HB Kennry Lawrence raced 89 yards untouched for a score. It was the first TD rushing or receiving against the defense in 10 quarters of play this season. PK/P Harry Washington was probably the MVP of the game for the Hokies with 4 FG's and 3 punts inside of the 20. QB Chris Gary led the offense with 3 TD passes and HB Henry Suber rolled to 120 yards giving him 3 straight 100 yard games. SS Lake Mobley produced two forced fumbles for the defense and 6 tackles while Rover Ron Gast recorded 3 sacks. Backup DB Fred Alexander recorded the 2nd safety of his career in the 4th quarter.

Texas A&M (1-3) 21
Game Summary
College Station, TX (AP) - The Hokies delivered the Texas A&M Aggies are harsh beating 59-21. The win was especially important to Coach Fisher because A&M was the first team to defeat Fisher after he had taken over the Hokie program. Henry Suber was almosted reached 100 yards for the 4th straight game, but had to settle for 98 yards and 2 scores after being pulled in the 3rd quarter. However, Suber did manage to catch a 59 yard TD pass and was named Bigh East Player of the Week. QB Chris Gary tossed 4 TD's with 3 going to Bobby Foley. Freshman Cade Meeks had another outstanding all-around game as he blocked a punt and caught a 17 yard TD pass. Cade Collins made 7 tackles and intercepted a pass that he almost returned for a TD, but Collins slipped out of bounds at the 1 following a 49 yard return. The Hokies were devasted by the loss of SS Lake Mobley when he suffered a stress fracture to his foot in the 1st quarter. Mobley hopes to return in time for the West Virginia or Miami game.

Game Summary
Blacksburg (AP) - Virginia Techimproved to 5-0 with a 34-24 win over Temple (2-3) despite a lackluster performance by the defense. HB Henry Suber led a punishing Hokie ground attack with 171 yards on 22 carries while QB Chris Gary and FB Jeff Johnson each scored on short TD runs. Gary threw for 227 yards during the game with 109 yards and a TD going to Bobby Foley while Reggie Esbjorn hauled in 91 yards. Esbjorn also contributed on special teams with a 69 yard punt return for a TD. CB Roland Spears led the defense with 7 tackles and SS Shyrone Thomas contributed 5 tackles along with an interception.

Game Summary
Syracuse, NY (AP) - The Hokies defeated Syracuse 30-13 in a matchup of Top 20 teams. Henry Suber carried the ball 21 times for 101 yards and 2 TD's on his way to Big East Player of the Week honors. Chris Gary passed 272 yards including a 41 yard TD to Reggie Esbjorn. The defense was led by Junior Zala with 6 tackles and 2 sacks. Harry Washington connected on 3 FG's as the Hokies improved to 6-0 on the season.

Game Summary
Blacksburg (AP) - Chris Gary passed for 4 TD's and 331 yards as the Hokies routed Rutgers 52-17. Cade Meeks hauled in a pair of TD catches (16,33) on his way to 121 receiving yards. Bruce Foley caught 5 passes for 93 yards including a 25 yard TD. Reggie Esbjorn scored on a 44 yard TD pass and returned a punt 61 yards for a TD. John Omens collected 8 tackles and an interception for the defense while Junior Zala collected a pair of sacks. Harry Washington drilled a 56 yard FG. The game was not televised marking the first time in over 2 years that the Hokies had not played on TV.

Game Summary
Blacksburg (AP) - Chris Gary threw 5 TD passes and 352 yards as the Hokies routed the Pittsburgh Panthers 65-7. Cade Meeks caught 5 passes for 132 yards and 3 TD's (29,37,16) while Reggie Esbjorn had 104 receiving yards and returned a punt 80 yards for a TD. Esbjorn collected 243 yards on 8 punt returns. The rushing game was led by Henry Suber with 91 yards and 2 scores. Big East Player of the Week Shyrone Ziegler led the defense 4 tackles including 2 sacks and a forced fumble. SS Shyrone Thomas collected 5 tackles and a safety.

Game Summary
Blacksburg (AP) - Bruce Foley caught a pair of TD passes as the Hokies destroyed the Mountaineers of West Virginia 42-7. Big East Player of the Week Chris Gary tossed 302 yards and 4 TD's on 20 of 22 passing. Reggie Esbjorn hauled in 7 passes for 148 yards including a 21 yard score. Henry Suber led the running game with 16 carries for 123 yards. The game got off to a bad start for the Hokies when Dee Heald went 80 yards on the ground on the first play from scrimmage. However, the Hokies rebounded behind the return of SS Lake Mobley to hold the Mountaineers scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Hokies moved up to #3 in both polls following Nebraska's shocking 20-17 loss to Kansas.

Game Summary
Coral Gables, FL (AP) - The Hokies and the Canes entered the game undefeated in Big East play, but the Canes were no match for the Hokies or the hard rain that fell. The Hokies forced the Canes into 3 costly turnovers including an interception returned 41 yards for a TD by Lake Mobley. John Omens and Cade Collins also intercepted passes on defense while Dusty McDonald collected 4 tackles and a sack. Reggie Esbjorn caught 2 TD passes from Chris Gary while Henry Suber and Darrell Wolverton combined to rush for 107 yrads. Despite the 3 interceptions, Miami QB Richmond Gary threw for 320 yards and 3 TD's. Richmond is the younger brother of Hokies QB Chris Gary. The Hokies moved to 10-0 and clinched the Big East Championship with the win.

Game Summary
Blacksburg (AP) - The Hokies pounded Virginia 52-27 and captured the Commonwealth Cup for the 4th straight year on a snow covered Worsham Field. Henry Suber plowed through the snow for 251 yards and 4 TD's including 73 yard TD run. For his efforts Suber was named NCAA Player of the Week. Reggie Esbjorn had another huge game as he caught 7 passes for 160 yards including 2 scores. QB Chris Gary, despite throwing 2 interceptions, threw for 272 yards and 3 TD's. The defense was lead by the stellar play of SS Lake Mobley who collected 9 tackles. The Hokies still looking for room to move up in the national ranking were disappointed to learn that UCLA defeated USC 29-0. With the win UCLA completes the regular season undefeated.

Game Summary
Chestnut Hill, MA (AP) - The Hokies completed the regular season undefeated for the 2nd straight year with a 30-3 win over Boston College. The Hokie defense led the way with 10 sacks and limited the Eagles' offense to 153 yards. DE Natrone Frazier collected 4 sacks while DT Randy Pennington had 3 sacks and Rover Ron Gast had 2 sacks. Bruce Foley led the offense with 5 catches for 121 yards including an 82 yard score. Chris Gary tossed for 2 TD's and 294 yards while Henry Suber rushed for 111 yards. Gary and Frazier both earned Big East Player of the Week honors. On a disappointing note the Hokies must hope for a loss by Arkansas in the SEC Championship game against Florida in order for the Hokies to reach the Fiesta Bowl. Arkansas completed the regular season undefeated as they trounced LSU 56-3

Editor's Note: Florida defeated Arkansas 27-24 in the SEC Championship game allowing the Hokies to advance to the national title game against UCLA.

Game Summary
Tempe, AZ (AP) - The Hokies returned to the National Championship game following last year's loss to Michigan 38-28. However, this year the Hokies were not to be denied as they handed UCLA a 40-16 defeat. The Hokies got on the scoreboard early as Chris Gary hit Cade Meeks with a short pass on the 2nd play of the game. Meeks eluded a tackler then raced 82 yards for the score. The Hokies led the game at halftime 16-10 thanks to three long field goals by Harry Washington. Washington connected from 54, 54, and 38 during the first half. The Hokies blew the game open in the 3rd quarter when Gary hit Meeks for a 12 yard TD and later found Reggie Esbjorn on a 4 yard score to give the Hokies a 30-10 lead. Washington connected on 42 yard FG in the 4th quarter and Gary found Esbjorn on a 47 yard TD pass to turn the game into a rout. Gary finished the game with 306 passing yards with 96 yards going to Esbjorn and 109 yards to Meeks. Cade Collins led the defense with 6 tackles and John Omens intercepted a pass to go with his 5 tackles. Following the game, Henry Suber whocarried the ball 20 times for 95 yards announced he would forego his senior year to enter the NFL draft.
