Site Purpose: This site is dedicated to family history research, and information sharing. It is focused on the Holdred, Holdridge, Holdredge, _ _ surnames and associated families. I am interested in sharing and exchanging information regarding any associated families or persons. Much of my Holdridge line came from the New London Connecticut area (Groton, Stonnington), and more recently Greene County, New York (Lexington, Cairo, Catskill). I am also interested in short biographies, personal histories, and other historical information. Enjoy!

US Army Pvt. Holdridge   The Lure To Genealogy: I have always wondered who my ancestors were, where they came from, and what they did for a living. I wondered of the hardships that they endured, and how they felt leaving their native country. I thought of finding family connections, near and distant cousins. Over the past several years that I've been involved in family history research, I have found answers to many of those questions that I have pondered. Through the federal and state census records, historical societies, LDS libraries, Social Security records, personel interviews, and many other sources, I learned who many of my ancestors were.

Perspective: With over a half century under my belt, I have a some perspective of this journey called life. I 've seen significant changes (progress?) in society, government, technology, etc. Coupling my fifty plus years with the perspectives, and reminiscences of my parents, grandparents, and other ancestors, gives a much greater perspective for the past, the present, and perhaps some feel for the future. This is one of the many benefits of family history research.

History is made day by day, and each one of us contributes his part, consciously or otherwise, but the record would be lost forever were not some more careful than others to preserve it. A quote from George W. Holdridge (1847 - 1934) See "Reminiscences of George W. Holdridge" Read his autobiographical sketch, and get a feel for what life was like during the Civil War era, and the early part of the 20th century.
