How We Met: We were both students at Transylvania University. We met pretty early into my freshman year. The picture to the left is actually the first time we ever met at the Student Activities Fair. I remember a few sarcastic remarks about first-year enthusiasm. We were pretty good friends getting into discussions in the cafeteria now and again. However, we were both dating someone else so we never thought of each other romantically. Then, the next year we both found ourselves single. It all began with an email I sent out over the Amnesty list serv. Nicholas emailed me back and pointing out I had spelled Amnesty wrong. I emailed him back... he emailed me back and so on. A few emails later he called me. The third week of school we started "officially" dating and we've been together ever since.

How We Got Engaged: (As recounted by Sarah) The morning of August 9th I found a note on the computer telling me to get ready and wear "nice comfortable clothes." It also instructed me that I would need my cell phone, my car, and that I should check my email after 10am. So I got ready and ate breakfast trying to waste as much time as possible. Finally I checked my email and got an e-card reminding me of how it had all begun with an email (see above) and sending me to a website full of instructions. I went to the website that had the following rules "Try hard, don't cheat, all numbers have significance." First, I had to go to the movie theaters with instructions like "Got to the 3rd movie poster, 2nd showtime, 4th number." Needless to say, I triple checked everything. These numbers went in blanks on my instruction sheet that made a call number for a book at the Duke Law Library. (The numbers were 7/05 -our wedding date and 9/28 - the day we started dating.) I went to the library found the book and inside was a map to the fish pond in Duke Gardens. I went there and waited for what seemed like forever. A couple minutes later Nicholas came around the corner carrying lilies and the ring. He immediately got down on one knee and proposed. Of course I said yes and then he took me to a picnic complete with mimosas, smoked salmon, and cheese that he had set up in another part of the park. (The picture is of us at the picnic.) In a word, the whole thing was completely perfect.
