Michael kidnaps Maddie and Jude - February/March 1997
The siege of Maddie and Jude by Michael was the story of a mentally ill man who was desperate to marry the love of his life.
This story had been building for some time with Michael finally managing to woo Maddie back to him. Maddie apprehensively entered into the relationship and Michael soon started to show that he had a wild temper and a jealous tendency. Maddie soon grew tired of Michael and his ways and broke up with him, later discovering he was mentally ill, Michael then got together with Jude who was more interested in his wallet than actually going out with him. However Michael soon lost interest in Jude and returned his affections to Maddie, becoming more and more obsessed with marrying her.
The siege episode began with Maddie and Jude being lured into a stable at Michael's house. The girls were then met by Michael who was holding a shot gun.
Kurt and Ruth back home in Hollyoaks Village became concerned about Maddie's absence and headed to Michael's house. When Kurt spotted Maddie's car had been hidden under a sheet he realised something was wrong! Kurt and Ruth then began to look for clues and came across Michael. Kurt didn't confront him and told him that he and Ruth were going home. They then phoned the police and when they arrived they heard gunshots coming from the stable. The police then barged into the stable and found two dead horses but Jude and Maddie had gone.
Michael had taken Maddie and Jude hostage to Scotland where he was planning to marry Maddie.
Following this was a tense hostage situation. Kurt and Ruth waited alongside the police for the safe return of Maddie and Jude. When Maddie refused to put on the wedding dress that Michael had brought for her and marry him he took Jude up to the roof with the intention of pushing her off. However Maddie appeared in the wedding dress and he was distracted.
In the resulting struggle Jude escaped Michael's clutch and he fell to his death!
