Having just seen an appalling band a certain music weekly had promised would impress, EWO was born. Out of frustration and anger that we were being spoon-fed opinions about whatever band is new and cool at the time-which undoubtedly would be contradicted the next month. EWO started as a release for our personal loves but also to try and shed a light on largely unknown or overlooked artists, and in particular but not restricted to, Glasgow based bands. We are now seeing some of this pay off with bands such as KAIN and The Owsley Sunshine receiving some national attention and more than a little label interest. Now we know that this is not because of EWO but we would like to think that we are a little cog in the big machine so to speak.
There are two people who run EWO, Holly who is the photographer and who designed the site, and Sarah who concentrates on writing. Neither of us have any formal qualifications to do any of these jobs but we hope that visitors to the site will bear with us while we learn and hopefully our love for what we cover will shine through. Though we run the site and so far are pretty much the only contributors we are also open to offerings from others- our only stipulations are that we only cover artists we like and try to keep negativity to an absolute minimum, we don’t see the point in giving awful bands coverage of any kind. We do welcome photos, reviews, ramblings, rants anything you want really.
On the site you will find sections for news, reviews, photographs, band pages and a forum-where we invite all visitors to air their views, though some of these are pretty empty at the moment they should be in full working order in a couple of months. We encourage people to spread the word about our site. However, if you wish to use any part of it please ask our permission as we work hard to produce the material on the site and would appreciate credit for it, we can always be contacted on, our_eyes_are_wide_open@yahoo.com.
Under the name Eyes Wide Open we have also promoted several gigs successful gigs with such artists as London-based bluesman Mr David Viner and Glasgow Rock ‘n’ Roll kings KAIN. Upcoming bands for EWO gigs are Ludes and Neils Children. In the future we hope to branch out in this field and hopefully you will see even more EWO gigs on the way.
Though we may be inexperienced, we sincerely hope our love and passion for music shines through. This mission statement outlines some of our beliefs and motivations- we promise to do our best to stick to these ideals and goals while constantly striving to move forward and remain fresh and always to champion true talent. |
