Certainly, there is nobody who questions that cold reading, auditioning technique, and camera work are vital skills in an industry town that's based on film and television.

Just so we understand each other, Howard's is absolutely, totally, completely, not the place to get that type of training. I don't want to call the school "anti-industry," but with all fairness, sometimes the school concentrates on the "art for the sake of the art" to the extent that it seems almost "anti-industry." There's never ever, for instance, any showcases connected with the shool for industry viewing.

So no ... cannot say that the basic touches any of those areas. It's much more of an "acting for the sake of an acting" type of place.

There are, as I am sure you know, like Milton over at the Beverly Hills Playhouse, schools that are much, much more "industry oriented." "Cold Reading" is actually a pretty reviled phrase around the studio.

Howard's is great, but it's definitely not the place to go to directly work on your industry skills, such as those you discuss.

And yes, I had to work on all those completely necesssary skills that you mentioned outside of the studio.

And yes ... LOL ... you can plan on spending a pretty intense amount of time with your scene partners if you should choose to study at Howard's. When you don't work hard enough around the studio ... even for a week, it shows through very clearly, and suffice it to say that when that happens, it's not a good thing. : )

    good luck,
