Went to post a respectful question to J.P. Turnbull on his actorsite boards.

Ooops! Couldn't ... since he has my ISP blocked again.

For those who are unaware, the ActorSite posting area shuts down ISPs of those whom he does not approve of. My great crime apparently was that I did not allow Gary Marsh to say with impunity that nobody except Casting Directors who are on CastNet's payroll use CastNet, which is incredibly laughable and contradicted by my own personal experience. I only posted on ActorSite with my rebuttal, in fact, because at the time I did not have access to Gary's e-mail, and said as much in my post. I don't let people spread nonsense about Gary's activities in my presence, so I was not going to let him to do the same versus somebody else. At this point, J.P. posted a few unkind and untrue things about me personally, "invited me to respond" and then banned my ISP so I could not respond. At that point, I joined the official "banned to the bone" group, including -- let's just say -- some names y'all would recognize.

The only reason that I went over there today is that I was able to post something nice and constructive there a few weeks ago, so when I came up with a question for him today, I thought (silly me!) that I would be able to post a nice sincere question.

    Woops!

After I took the time out to ask the question, his boards refused to accept the post, saying that I was denied access to his CGI bin.

    Okey Dokey.

So I am still going to ask it, since I would be interested in knowing the answer. Hell, that's why I wanted to ask in the first place.

The question was a nicer more respectful version of the following:

Obviously, you [J.P.] continue to do, and have done, a great number of working relationships with name Casting Directors. A simple fact. What I was wondering was about the SPECIFICS of how you feel that having those connections has come to the service of your clients, about the time of "push" calls, if at all, I would have to expect. Hopefully, I was looking for verifiable examples of how this gaining of a somewhat high profile has benefited his clients in specific ways.

It's not that I was expecting a necessraily straight answer from the post, since I really did not expect to hear, "Damn Casting Director X, when I had worked hard to accommodate his schedule several times on workshops, and then, he had the guts not to read one of my clients on project X when she was perfect for it." But I thought, in light of the fact that most of the people on this particular board take the time to promote themselves with a reasonably high internet profile, and that J.P. does, at minimum, as much as any of the rest of us in this respect, that it would be interesting to possibly hear some examples of how if you bark up the internet tree with a huge amount of your time, how it can finally pay off, and that we can see some tangible benefit of it. Regardless of the response, I simply relied upon the intelligence of those reading the answer, if any, to separate any wheat from any chaff, as it were.

For those of you who, let's just say, might not want a certain person to know about the existence of these boards, all I can say is, heck guys ... he knows anyway ... or he soon would, since we don't exactly tend to be low profile, and we're moving up on 3,000 page hits after less than a week in existence, and without any real advertisement. The group of internet actors and board users is just not all that huge, and obviously, there's a huge amount of crosstraffic between the CastNet, ActorSite, and this tiny lemonade stand here. This post is simply just intended to make constructive use of that.

J.P. can ban, or delete whom he wants on ActorSite. They're his boards. Castnet can do the same. That's, in fact, why I felt it necessary to start these boards, where I, of course, can at least attempt to maintain a more open environment, with the archives that I'm currently working on, since God knows I certainly don't have any financial agenda with this site that I have to pursue.

So hey, J.P. Tried to ask on ActorSite a very respectful version of a question that 1) You are clearly in a singularly knowledgable position with which to answer based on ActorSite work and promotional activity; 2) would probably benefit the general knowledge pool for those who use the internet to promote themselves, whether managed or not; 3) Would certainly give you a chance to yip about success stories.

Oops! Cannot post on your playground, on your terms, so I guess I will have to post on mine. Caring, warm & fuzzy guy that I am, I am going to e-mail you now, because I surely would not want to think that if this post remains unanswered, it's because you did not know about this little microscopic sand-pile here.
