Well, I suppose the good news is that you now know that your site may look open, but might actually be down for an unspecified amount of time, whether that be minutes or significantly longer.
Also, certainly I thought if constructive that you take these boards for a quick response to notify the cross traffic that they might be through here in the mean time -- hence the reason that I chose the above title, since, certainly, there's no guarantee that anybody will read any specific posts of you or me, yet, they are "forced" to read the titles.
Yes indeedy. We are all at the mercy of our "Hosts," as the case may be. I suppose one constructive avenue to look at the situation might be to realize that at least you are in a position to utilize the benefits of a CGI-Bin Directory, which, of course, is absolutely required for most boards, including the script you are using. Geocities, for instance, does not allow for CGI or exe files for alleged "security" reasons.
Presumably also, ActorSite at your discretion will have the ability to archive posts so that your main contributors don't find themselves in a position to have to answer the same "general" questions over and over again. However, unless there is some type of automated script with a human trigger, as there is with the boards connected to www.hsx.com, then I would agree if queiried that archiving is a huge unenviable task.
Did not know that you're out of the management game. Actually, however, it might appear that you are now in a better position to answer part of the question, or, an element of it, if you should so choose at some point. For a while, there, you were doing the CD workshops at the same time that you were managing. Due to those workshops, among other business dealings not directly involving casting on particular projects, you had a significant degree of access to a number of name CDs. Since we both know the names, I don't feel the need to reiterate them here.
The question, of course, would be, the specifics of whether you found a greater degree of access, among other things, to transfer from your "other" working relationships to having needed to get your clients in the door. By way of comparison, for others reading the post, I can tell you that if you never want NOT to get in a particular CDs office, one of the absolute best ways to do it is to become their close friend. I know about one dozen clear examples to support the theory that CDs subject their personal actor friends to much more scrutiny then they do to those at a "professional distance."
As for the "you must be bored" opening with thing like the "settle down" line, hey ... it's a good thing, I suppose, as at least we have some verification that it's actually you doing the posting.
As for your second message, yes, of course, using these boards to notify a portion of your traffic for those times that your "host" is not complying. I would have to imagine for time being, however, that the notification might not hit much of a significant portion of your traffic, but at least you'll get an unspecified percentage of cross-traffic.
best,
