For some reason (could it be July 4th?), the Hosts are not responding to my e-mails to turn on the cgi-bin access. I put up a notice on the boards explaining that it probably wouldn't get fixed until Monday, but the hosts had said that they would be covering through the weekend, since they were down off and on for two days and had to reset the servers.

What this means is that if they turn on the cgi the forums work, and if they don't, they don't.

As far as the other issues, most casting people only answer to two masters: 1. The head(s) of the creative team, be it the writer/producer, writer/director, director, or producer, and 2. The Story...they feel a creative need to be true to their interpretation of the script, so if it differs in any way with that of the creative team, they may feel compelled to speak(if anyone will listen).

Knowing a casting director personally, whether you are an agent, manager, or talent, means that you have to walk a fine line between friendship and business and be ready at any time to "back off" at the slightest indication that you are crossing the line. CD's have the key to the door...talent and talent representatives have to respect the fact that even if casting opens that door, the head of the creative team may slam it shut again.

Also, as a friend to a CD, and if you know them as an agent, a manager, or a talent, you have to repect the fact that they MAY be risking their career everytime they do you a favor...so only ask gently and lightly or you lose both a friend and a professional contact.

    A nice way to ask:

Actor: Am I right for the part of Jonny?

CD: We've got offers out on that part.

Actor: So, how about them Lakers?

One more thing...the bigger they are, the nicer they are, and if you ask a favor, remember, you owe a favor, and if you are not in a position to give one, then you shouldn't ask.

This could go on and on and on, but to an actor, remember, the best thing you can do is remember it is about the STORY...NOT THE SUCK UP. If you help complete the STORY...YOU WILL GET TO THE CALLBACK... From there it's a creative compromise.

Getting the CD to know who you are,of course, involves actor marketing, agents and managers, workshops and showcases, referrals from others, and chance meetings.

Remember, the actor who knows how to become the PUZZLE PEICE that completes the STORY gets the shot. And everybody likes to help their friends and relatives...

Also, the more well known and or well-respected... you are, the more you are likely to be stretched to fit the puzzle.

As usual, this subject could go on forever...

If you get to the audition:

GET IN...BE GOOD...GET OUT...DON'T TAKE A LOT OF THEIR TIME AND DON'T SUCK UP NO MATTER HOW WELL YOU KNOW THEM.

    Same at the callback.

    JP

    Thanks, JP
