    I would think that as long as you're a touch careful with him -- in whatever terms he best understands it -- (and I'm sure you are) to stay away from treating or implying that the audition process that he just went through was any type of competition, then there's just nothing bad that could come from being as happy about it and as encouraging as possible. If, on the other hand, he were to divert any focus to the fact that he was chosen "over" or "instead of" the others (presumably kids) up for the part, then next time he acts his little heart out at auditions and does a great job for a part that he really wants but the part goes to somebody else (on hair color, perhaps), he might wrongly think that he did a bad job, and that's why he did not get the part.

    But then again (as always) I might not know what the heck I'm talking about.

    anyway ...

    ... the main thing is that he's thrilled to bits, because certainly, having fun is what it's about.
