Happy Fourth of July, everyone. Have a safe and sober weekend, or if not sober, for heaven's sake at least don't drive :)
Now that that PSA is over, here's a question: What is the best way to go about doing agent submissions and follow-ups? I'd love to hear from people in both LA or NY and small or medium-size markets, too. I've heard advice from the executive director of the Dallas/Fort Worth SAG/AFTRA local suggesting that talent start with some sort of teaser letter (Hi, name, I'll send headshot & resume in a week or two sort of thing), follow that with the headshot and resume, of course, give them time to receive it, and then call and see if you can get an interview. I have tried this, only I forgot about the follow up call part, for which I am now kicking myself, but don't really have time before I move for it to be worthwhile to try again. I would also suggest, at least for Texas, calling first to find out what type of representation they offer. SAG has lists that include codes for what types of representation an agency offers, but the agency doesn't always include them, and the agency name won't necessarily make that obvious. At least a couple of the agencies I submitted to turned out to be just modeling, which I'm not interested in (or qualified for :) ). Also, if you're rejected (my main reason was "already have enough of your type" - young female brunette, go figure), how long should you wait to resubmit (certain number of months, certain number of new credits?)?
Any input on these questions (if you can find them among the rest of my rambling) would be greatly appreciated.
