"New York Models" help my sister-in-law is being scammed Wednesday, 08-Jul-98 18:22:29
My sister-in-law, took her daughter (15) to one of those large cattle call type "We are looking for new models" event somewhere recently in Los Angeles. She was asked for a picture (she used a school photo) and then was interviewed for 5 minutes by "the owner". This "owner" told my sister-in-law that her daughter was beautiful (she is) and she "had it" and that he wanted to meet them privately after the event. He told them later that she was the only one there that he was interested in and then he wanted $300 for what she did not say. Luckily for her she said she was broke. This man now wants her to come back to see him next week, and is buttering her up with guarantees of work now in NY. I am sure this is another scam just like all the rest. However, my sister-in-law feels that she is too smart to be taken and that this guy is legit. What can I say to her, without offending her that will save her and my niece alot of embarassment, money and heart-break? Are there any good books on this subject that I could send her? Or, maybe someone could respond here and I could print and forward that response to her. I am pretty sure she said the name of the event was "New York Models Search". Maybe someone has first had knowledge or experience they could share. She is thinking about going with her daughter to NY with this man. If I can find out the name of this man and/or his agency, I will post a follow-up. Thanks again. Glad you all are here. Kelly Kelly |
